Back from holiday and straight back to work with getting the hedges sorted at Sparr Farm. The tractor hedgecutter is fantastic but isn’t the easiest to get on and off and with the tractor being needed for field maintenance work at the moment, it’s proving unbelievably useful to also have a flail head for my Hitachi digger meaning I don’t have to spend loads of times switching between pieces of kits. There’s about a month’s worth of hedgecutting to do at Sparr so no time to mess around! The digger will also be able to continue working when the ground turns, where the tractor would start sinking!

Work has started on the next big job but this is a more personal one with a large amount of post and rail fencing to install for mine and my fiancée’s horses (and our lovely clients!). It will certainly keep me busy this winter with thousands of metres of 5 rail post and rail to install but first things first was to get the gates sorted so that the mares and foals can start to graze in the field whilst I fence around them - it will certainly give the colts some good life experience and get them comfortable and confident with machinery!

And she’s back! After well over 2 years of being stored at my late father’s farm due to my personal circumstances, it is absolutely awesome to have my Fordson back with me at Sparr Farm. It was William’s first time seeing the old girl and it looks like he approves!

Now for her to have a new set of tyres, a respray, and some TLC before a winter of log splitting to feed the massive inglenook fireplaces in the farmhouse.

I may enjoy the efficiency of the larger, more modern machinery, but there’s something so special about these vintage tractors and the character they have
