A lot of businesses assume renewable energy is only worth considering if you have a huge site or very high usage.

In reality, the better question is usually this:

When do you use the most energy, and how much of that demand could you cover with on-site generation, storage or smarter energy management?

That’s why commercial renewable energy is rarely a one-size-fits-all conversation.

For some businesses, solar PV makes the biggest impact. For others, battery storage or heat pumps can play an important role too. The right answer depends on your building, your energy profile, and your long-term goals.

We provide Solar PV, battery storage, air source and ground source heat pump solutions, from engineer-led surveys through to the design and installation of renewable energy systems.

We work with businesses across many sectors, including hospitality, manufacturing, housing, utilities, leisure, retail, education, sports clubs and agriculture, so we see firsthand how different the right solution can look from one site to the next.

If your business is reviewing energy costs this year, a feasibility conversation is often the best place to start. Get in touch 👇

Not every development suits the usual heating options, and that’s exactly where the right expertise makes all the difference.

We worked with the Rural Housing Association Limited on their Main Street, Randalstown development to deliver a communal geothermal heating system for a 9-unit scheme.

With tight site boundaries, no piped gas and limited space, geothermal gave the project a practical, low-carbon heating solution without compromising on parking or the tenants daily lives

It’s a brilliant example of how developers, builders and architects can think differently about heating at design stage to deliver warm, affordable homes and a more sustainable solution overall.

One of the questions we hear most from businesses considering solar PV is: how long does it take to install?

In most cases, the full process takes around 4 to 8 weeks from initial survey to switching the system on. This includes site assessment, system design, approvals, installation, and final grid connection.

The good news is that the actual work on the roof is usually much quicker, often just a few days, depending on the size and complexity of the system.

For many businesses, solar feels like a big project before they understand the process. In reality, with the right planning and advice, it can be far more straightforward than expected.

We'll guide you through each stage, helping make the move to solar clear, practical and manageable.

If your business is considering solar PV and you want to understand what the process could look like for your site, get in touch.

Geothermal heat networks are becoming an increasingly important part of the conversation around low-carbon heating, especially for housing developments, apartment blocks and multi-building sites🌍♨️

They work like a gas network, but instead of mains gas pipes supplying fossil fuel, heat networks use geothermal boreholes and shared pipework to give each home or building access to renewable heat from the ground.

The benefit is not just lower carbon. Heat networks can help reduce infrastructure requirements, lower operating and servicing costs, and create a more efficient long-term energy strategy for developments where a single-building approach may not be the best fit.

They can also be designed to work alongside other renewable technologies, including solar PV, air source and hybrid systems, which is where an integrated engineering approach really matters.

We’ve already seen heat networks brought to life in projects such as the Lisnafin apartments in Strabane for the Northern Ireland Housing Executive and a communal geothermal heating system for Rural Housing Association Limited in Randalstown.

If you’re exploring low-carbon heating for a larger site or development, speak to our Engineering Team about whether a geothermal heat network could be the right fit.

One of the first questions we get asked by businesses considering installing solar panels is how long does it take?

In most cases, the full journey from survey to switching the system on takes around 4 to 8 weeks, but the actual work on the roof is often completed in just a few days. With the right planning and guidance, moving to solar can be much more straightforward than many businesses expect.

We recently delivered a major on-site solar PV system for blocblinds in Magherafelt, with 304 panels on the factory roof and a further 49 on the office building.

The system includes 165kW of solar panels connected to 116kW inverters and is expected to reduce electricity usage from external sources by around 40%, with an estimated payback period of approximately three and a half years.

Another common question we hear from businesses is not whether solar makes sense, but how many panels they would actually need.
The answer depends on a few practical things:

☀️ How much electricity you use
☀️ How much roof space you have available
☀️ What you want the system to achieve

For example, a business using 30,000 kWh a year might need around 100 panels, taking up roughly 160 square metres of roof space.
That is why there is no one-size-fits-all answer. The right system is the one designed around your site, your energy demand and your budget.
