I get asked this every week. The honest answer depends on the boiler's age, what's failed, and whether parts are still around. Sometimes a small repair buys you years. Sometimes it's money down the drain.

Check the pressure, run the heating for an hour, bleed any cold radiators, lag the condensate pipe, and make sure your service isn't overdue. That's most of it.

First cold snap's on the way, and the number one boiler call-out it brings is a frozen condensate pipe.

If your boiler stops on a freezing morning and shows a fault, check the white plastic pipe outside first. Warm (not boiling) water over it usually gets you going again in 10 minutes, no engineer needed.

Hi, I’m Luke. I run Bath Eco Heat and I’m Gas Safe registered.

I started the business because I wanted to build something for myself and my family, but also because I wanted to be able to work hard and still be there for my two boys.

I’m based just outside Bath and I’m looking to take on more work in Bath and the surrounding areas.

If you’re a homeowner and need anything from a boiler service or breakdown to a new heating system, give me a message.

I’m also looking to work with more local businesses, builders and developers. So whether you’re looking for someone to subcontract work to, need an extra pair of hands when you’re busy, or need a reliable heating engineer you can call on regularly, give me a shout.

I’ve got my own van and tools and I’m happy to take on both one-off jobs and ongoing subcontract work.

Ever seen what comes out of a central heating system?

It's black, it's gritty, and it's iron oxide — rust off the inside of your radiators. Every system makes it.

What it does:

🔧 Blocks the narrow waterways in the heat exchanger, the most expensive part of the boiler
🔧 Clogs the pump and jams valves
🔧 Leaves radiators cold at the bottom, which is a different fault to cold at the top

"A magnetic filter is just an upsell" is the thing we hear. It isn't. It's a magnet in a canister on the return pipe, catching that debris before it reaches the boiler, and it gets emptied at every service.

If your system has never been cleaned and there's no filter on it, that's worth a conversation.
