If you swallow chewing gum it stays in your body for 7 years
. or did my dad just tell me that to stop me chewing so much gum?

Either way, I want you to pretend for a moment that it’s a FACT

Because I’m about to tell you something that will make more sense if we can keep that example in mind

If you pour cooking oil (or any grease) down your kitchen sink

The chances are it will solidify

And eventually cause a blockage in the pipe

We visit many kitchen sinks with this problem and so to save you some time, energy and most importantly money today

Put your used cooking oil from the pan in the bin from now on

And let the bin men do their job

… Rather than clog your pipes with what actually is a really ease prevention strategy

And that bit of advice makes me think the chewing gym tale is an old wives one, now I think about it

Because I’m yet to hear of anyone with a clogged windpipe due to chewing gum…

Anyway, food for thought!

Did you know beavers can completely change the flow of a river… just by building a dam?

No blueprints

No training

No “quick YouTube tutorial first”

Just sticks, mud, instinct

And suddenly an entire landscape has a new water system

Now here’s the bit that matters to your house 👇

When a beaver builds a dam properly, it controls water flow and prevents chaos downstream

When it doesn’t… flooding, damage, and a whole mess nobody asked for

Sound familiar? 😅

Your plumbing works in a very similar way

Everything is connected - pipes, valves, radiators, boilers

And when water isn’t flowing the way it should, problems don’t usually stay “small” for long

A tiny leak

A partially blocked pipe

A heating system that’s “mostly fine”

Ignore it long enough and suddenly you’re dealing with cold radiators, pressure drops, damp patches, or water where it absolutely shouldn’t be

The good news?

Unlike beavers, we do have the tools, training, and experience to get things flowing properly
.. before your home turns into its own version of a flooded riverbank

Imagine it’s December 1st

The winter sun is sneaking through the blinds

The house is quiet for once

You wander into the bathroom, toothbrush in hand…

Festive season is on it’s way

…and it’s your new favourite room in the house

Fresh tiles

Clean lines

That hotel-like calm feeling

No dodgy grout. No dripping tap. No shower you have to wrestle with just to wake up

Just a proper “ahhh, this is nice” start to the day

You brush your teeth and actually enjoying being in the bathroom

Take a quick shower

And head out the door feeling like you’ve got your life together

All because you decided a few months earlier:

“Right. Let’s just get the main bathroom sorted.”

Here’s the honest bit…

We’re already booked up a couple of months ahead (no fake urgency here)

And every year we have people message us around November time saying:

“Any chance you can fit us in before the year is out?”

Sometimes we can, we always do our best

But a lot of the time… we can’t

Because once winter hits, everyone wants their new bathroom and their boiler serviced, yesterday

It still blows my mind today that the bar to quality is so low for trade in Basingstoke 🤯

Is a quick response not part of the service?

Turning up to the job… well… isn’t that quite self explanatory? 😬

Well either way, we’re proud of what we provide

Okay I will have to admit before we go any further I spilt spaghetti bolognaise down my new shirt

But don’t worry, the story gets worse

So I had a new t-shirt on from Next a few weeks back and the first time I wore it, said spill happened

Long story short (as I’m embarrassed about the details at this point)

I couldn’t get the stain out, so the t-shirt ended up being chucked in the bin

The devastation lied in the fact I REALLY liked my new t-shirt

So as the 30 year old lad I am

Off I trotted to Next to rebuy the t-shirt

Same colour, same fit, same feel

You couldn’t write this next bit… I spilt food down the bloody thing again

So this time I got my wife involved, “please help me save this t-shirt”

Said t-shirt ended up butchered and in the bin, again

At this point I’ve put it down to the weird material that clearly doesn’t like mainstream elbow grease

I’ve saved plenty of other t-shirts but it can’t be a coincidence it was unsavable twice

Which reminds me of a conversation I had with a customer

The silicon on their bath in the shower was cracking, in fact it was in a pretty terrible state

They’d only had their bathroom refitted by a local company a year ago

Then they got a different company out to repair the cracks a year on

And then 6 months on from that we ended up at their house and I was the one that had the hard conversation

“The bath is moving every time someone uses it, which is stretching the silicon

So unless we fix the deeper underlying issue here, this will keep happening”

It’s fair that every human is going to give the benefit of the doubt in the beginning

But if something repeatedly happens

It’s worth digging a bit deeper

I have no idea if the Next t-shirt saga was the material at “fault”

But I can confirm with confidence this bath was not fitted correctly in the first place 😬

The amount of jobs we attend to fix the damage of previously done poor pipework

Well I’d have a million pounds by now 😅

Tradesman in general get a bad reputation.

But I want to take a moment to appreciate the hard work and dedication of not only my team of tradesman

But all tradesman out there.

To choose the path of becoming a tradesman, takes guts.

It’s against society’s norm, of being “academic”

And just as Justin Bieber famously once did -

You have to go against the grain and say “I DON’T CARE!”

We might not have gone to Oxford University

But we’re the backbone of this society, keeping homes, businesses, and infrastructure functioning smoothly.

It takes years of training, mentoring and apprenticeships to fix the pipes, wire the homes, and build the roads

… and it’s not an easy path to be great at what we do

But it’s a path that deserves recognition and respect

So please join me in celebrating all the tradesman out there, near and far -

👉 By telling them when they’ve done a great job, and you’re happy with the work.

👉 By recommending us to your friends and family.

👉 By opening our emails (oh wait, you already do that, thank you 😜)
