Not sure about the difference between fuels for using in a stove? Which is best? Which is the right type of fuel for your type of appliance? Which is better for efficiency and the environment?

Take a look at this useful page of information from HETAS.

You can't just burn anything in your stove. Find out what you should be burning and what fuel could damage your log burner.

As the colder weather approaches and fireplaces and wood-burning stoves start getting more use, it’s important to make sure your chimney and flue are clean, clear and ready for the winter season. Now is the ideal time to get Mick and the team booked in before the winter rush begins.

Regular chimney sweeping provides several important benefits:

✅ Fire Prevention: Sweeping removes accumulated soot, tar, creosote and other combustible deposits from inside the flue. These materials can build up over time, particularly when burning wood or solid fuels, and can significantly increase the risk of a chimney fire if left unchecked.

✅ Clearing Blockages: Chimneys can become obstructed by bird nests, cobwebs, leaves, debris or even fallen masonry. A professional sweep will identify and remove these obstructions, helping to ensure that smoke and combustion gases can escape safely.

✅ Health and Safety: A clean, unobstructed flue allows smoke and potentially dangerous combustion gases, including carbon monoxide, to vent safely outside rather than backing up into your home. Maintaining a clear flue is an important part of using your stove or fireplace safely.

✅ Better Efficiency and Lower Emissions: A clean chimney generally provides better airflow and draught, helping your stove or fire burn more efficiently. A more efficient burn can mean better heat output, reduced fuel consumption and fewer unnecessary emissions.

✅ Protecting Your Chimney and Appliance: Regular sweeping helps prevent corrosive deposits from building up and damaging chimney liners, brickwork and other components. Keeping the flue properly maintained can help extend the working life of your chimney and heating appliance.

🔥 We love it when we are commissioned to do a truly fabulous transformation ...like this installation we completed in Holbrook.

We removed the old gas fire which was set within a very dated surround. We removed the old fireplace and created a new recess to house a new and efficient stove. We replaced the old gas fire with a fabulous Dean Forge Foxworthy stove, added a beautiful wood mantle and even matched the skirting up to the new hearth so it looks more modern but retaining a country feel!

If you are looking to have something similar done in your home, just DM us and we can arrange a quote.

Did you know we can give your existing stove a makeover?⭐🌟

This Dean Forge Dartmoor stove had some serious rust from past damp issues and the tenant didn't want to use it much. It was looking old, shabby and a bit unloved. But after a good brush‑down and a fresh coat of heat‑resistant paint, it’s looking brand new! ✨

We love this sort of transformation ....so satisfying! 😊👍

There is something so satisfying about doing a new install – and this one was no exception. In this property, we upgraded a customer's kitchen stove with an improved installation, making it safe and ready to use for the winter. 🔥

We swapped the existing log burner for a compact stove from Clock Woodburners, and used a combination of a Schiedel UKflexible liner and twin wall system to give the safest results for many years to come.

We also upgraded the cowl to a brand new chimney pit and a bird guard cowl from Midtec

All A.S. Chimneys engineers and sweeps are NVQ Level 2 Qualified in Chimney sweeping and/or stove and chimney lining – some are NVQ Level 3 Qualified.

A previous job undertaken by A.S. Chimneys that shows how we sometimes find unexpected issues but have the knowledge and experience to resolve them.

In this instance we were asked to look at a chimney stack that was causing some nasty damp in two bedrooms of a property! We were initially going to re-render and re-cap, however we found the bricks under the render badly spalled. So, we took the decision to rebuild! We cleared wet rubble from the base of the stack, rebuilt it and then rendered.

A fine job done (even if we say so ourselves). 😊👌

Here's a great example of a fireplace transformation carried out by the team here at AS Chimneys.
We removed an old open fireplace which had a very dated surround and replaced it with a fabulous looking and more efficient stove with a modern but more fitting surround and attractive slate hearth. Much better for heat and efficiency and certainly much cosier!
