Following our recent announcement that Mivan joinery apprentice Jamie Matthews will represent the UK in Joinery at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, we’re proud to share some behind-the-scenes shots showcasing the work that has helped Jamie reach this milestone.

Jamie has been undertaking an intensive programme of preparation both here in the Mivan factory and across the UK. His training has included several week-long training sessions in England and Wales, boot camps alongside the rest of Team UK, and specialist one-day training events hosted by WorldSkills sponsors.

As part of his preparations, Jamie will travel to Germany this week to take part in a pressure test event. The competition simulation will bring together competitors from eight countries and provide a valuable opportunity to experience the intensity and demands of an international skills competition.

Working closely with WorldSkills trainer Andrew Pengelly, and building on the strong foundation developed at Mivan through the ongoing mentorship of apprentice trainer Charlie McAuley, Jamie’s journey reflects the dedication, development and world-class craftsmanship that is synonymous with Mivan.

We wish Jamie every success as he prepares for the WorldSkills finals in Shanghai later this year. Everyone at Mivan will be cheering him on every step of the way.

Mivan is delighted to be working once again with Margaritaville at Sea following our successful partnership on Margaritaville at Sea Islander in 2024. As part of the wider Rathbane Group delivery team, we have been appointed alongside sister company MJM Marine to support the transformation of the future Margaritaville at Sea Beachcomber.

The project will see Mivan contribute to the delivery of high-quality, design-led spaces that will form part of the guest experience onboard. This will include the expansive central atrium and the exciting ‘Flip Flop’ bar concept, building on a relationship that continues to grow with the cruise brand.

We look forward to bringing our specialist joinery and fit-out expertise to another exciting project and working collaboratively to help realise the vision for Beachcomber.

It's been a busy period for our Marine team, delivering exciting projects right across the world.

In Hawaii and across the Eastern Pacific Ocean, a month long project has just completed on a live in-service refurbishment aboard a stunning residential cruise vessel.

In Canada and Alaska, survey activities supporting planning for upcoming works on two new projects have been completed.

Elsewhere, colleagues travelled through Greece and Turkey to carry out surveys and assessments ahead of a major drydock programme, details of which will be announced shortly.

These activities reflect the team's ability to deliver technical expertise and project support across diverse locations and operational environments.

We look forward to continuing to work with new and existing clients on this diverse marine portfolio in the second half of the year.

Congratulations to the Mivan raft team, JP Laverty, Jonathan O'Boyle, Seamus McGarry, Sam Macro, Caolan McKeown and Colin Johnston, on taking part in this year’s RNLI Portrush Raft Race 2026.

From the initial design and build through to race day itself, the team demonstrated a fantastic mix of teamwork, creativity and practical skill in creating their very own raft, while also showing great grit, determination and team spirit out on the water.

A big thank you also goes to all of our Mivan colleagues who came along to support and cheer the team on at Portrush Harbour. Your encouragement was greatly appreciated and helped make the day such a success.

We are proud to have taken part in an excellent community event organised by the RNLI and Portrush Yacht Club, helping to raise vital funds for the RNLI. In addition, an internal sweepstake organised by the Mivan Social Committee also raised funds for our Charity Partner, Macmillan Cancer Support.

Yesterday, Rathbane Group's Joint Managing Directors, Naoimh McConville and Conleth Edward McConville, along with Gary Annett, CEO MJM Marine attended the launch of Belfast Harbour’s 25-year Masterplan.

This ambitious plan sets out the pathway for £1.3bn investment and an estimated £12bn GVA related to the Harbour Estate.

Rathbane Group, comprising Mivan Limited, MJM Marine, NTS, Topglass Contracts Ltd and Rathbane Holdings is delighted to see this investment in the Northern Ireland maritime sector- a cornerstone of the local economy.
