Hello peeps,

Just a quick one to say I've just realised that I forget to put an answer service on my phone.

I'm currently away and have no signal unless I go to the many bars and jump on their WIFI.

I'm back on the 26th where hopefully normal service will resume 😊

Thanks
Jim

We did a little pilgrimage to the north of the island a couple of days ago where we sprinkled some of Barrys ashes, I think he'd be happy with that view. He's got quite a few of them now all over the place ♥️

Well its official.

As many will know about 18 months ago I lost my mentor and best friend, nearly every day for the past 23 years of working together I either saw or spoke to Barry and that just disappearing has been very hard. The first couple of months weren't great I planted on a smile but deep down I was broken. I've got a great bunch of people around me which is awesome but sometimes I still feel alone. The Countess of Brecknock were amazing and its still baffles me why a place like this isn't government funded. Myself and Kerry Beard (Barry's widow) are for some strange reason going to throw ourselves out of a perfectly good plane to raise as much money as possible just to give something back. Whatever you can spare would help us no end. https://www.justgiving.com/page/team-barry-beard-2?utm_medium=FR&utm_source=CL&utm_campaign=lc_frp_share_transaction_fundraiser_page_launched

Well thats the second pot hole in as many months.

This one has put my van off the road until Wednesday next week.

Please bear with me at this point in time this will knock me back again.

This time I will be sending an invoice in to the council office for the repairs to my van (rough guess was £500) and loosing 4 days labour.
Im sick of it......

A busy few days at the office.

Removed all 4 of the old crumbling cement verges, only to find the previous roofer was a bit of a plonker and cut off the ends of all the tile battens. As a result gravity kicked in and everything sagged inwards.

I replaced the outer felt and all the tile battens holding everything up as it should.
Installed all new continuous dry verge (this stuff is awesome it has a hidden gulley built in and this takes the water down into the gutter) and a nice new ridge cap.

The chimney was a bit bushy, the cement was perished and the lead had fallen out.

A full grind out of the mortar and a full repoint was required as well as a new vent and a reflaunch of the top, finishing it off with some new shiny lead.

The ridges needed a spruce up too with a repoint of the whole length and a couple of them need to be rebedded too.

All sorted now with some very happy clients, Thank you so much for you patience. It was nice to get my first cement job of the year ticked off, let's hope the weather stays like this so I can tick off all the rest 🤞

Busy busy busy.. I'm still battling through a massive back log of emergency repairs, I just want the rain to stop for longer than an odd day.

This one was a massive leak at the bottom of a valley that had been leaking for years due to shoddy workmanship, the felt had kept the water out for a long time but even than gave out in the end.

Thought I'd pop in and say "Hi" yes I'm still here and yes im super busy.

Heres one of my recent emergency jobs that I remembered to take pics of.

The gutter, fascia and soffits were all hanging off over the entrance to a block of flats.
I started stripping by removing the gutter when I did this the whole center section fell onto the scaffold because all of the old larv and Plaster soffits from years ago had been left, over time these had deteriorated and fell on to the newer cement fiber soffit adding to the weight over head.

All stripped off, new wood to support the soffit and this also gave the fascia an extra fixing point, new fascias, a coat of wood paint and the original gutter went back up completing the job.

Luckily I had another roofer on hand as I think the whole side would of dropped and smashed if he wasn't there 👍
Thanks to Chapple Scaffold for the speedy service. 👍

C'mon down tonight if youre available. Its all for an awesome cause and its a bit of fun on a Tuesday..

As you're aware, this year's chosen charity is the Countess of Brecknock in memory of our own Barry Beard. One of the many ways we raise money is by our monthly quiz which is £2 entry per person on the first Tuesday of every month.

So grab your thinking caps and join us tonight for a fun night raising money.

I had to fix some lead on a local church that had slipped in the recent weather. All done now though 👍

How cool is this, a customer sent it through today after I did a little repair job... awesome 👍
