Weā€™ve started a big job, that has huge plans and thereā€™s plenty of work ahead for us šŸ”Ø

Weā€™ve officially got started on our latest project in
Abergavenny, and this is one youā€™re going to be seeing plenty more of over the coming months.

Thereā€™s a serious amount of work to get through before we can show you the finished result, but thatā€™s half the fun. Weā€™ll be taking you along as the project progresses, from these early stages right through to the final details.

For now, remember what it looks like todayā€¦because give us a few months and you wonā€™t recognise the place !

Thereā€™s a big difference between getting a wall built and getting a wall right.

From establishing the structure and following that sweeping curve, through to selecting, shaping and positioning each individual stone, every stage affects what you eventually see in the finished wall, and with dry stonework, the craftsmanship is the finish. Thereā€™s no render, cladding or final layer coming along to hide whatā€™s underneath.

Just stone, skill and a lot of patience.

A proper transformation from the first course to the final coping stone and one weā€™re very proud of.

This dry stone wall has been built piece by piece, with every stone carefully selected and positioned to create the strength, shape and finish you see here and when youā€™re working with a curve like this, thereā€™s nowhere for poor workmanship to hide.

Keeping that line flowing consistently from one end to the other takes time, experience and a proper eye for the stone.

A lot of work goes into something that, once finished, looks like itā€™s always belonged there ā€” and thatā€™s exactly the point.

Stonecutting with nothing more than a hammer and chisel, a centuries old skill still used by craftsman today.

The art is in trusting your hands and your eyes. When you do, you create a masterpiece that will stand the test of time.

There are a few things you start noticing when you've spent years working with stone, and unfortunately, once you see them, you can't unsee them šŸ˜‚

Good stonework isn't just about how it looks on the day the job is finished. The right materials, proper pointing, experienced workmanship and taking the time to do things properly all make a difference to how it looks and performs years down the line.

So yes, we probably are judging that wall as we drive past it. Occupational hazard.
