Just thought I'd post this for the know it all instant experts that look at my page.

In France, the traditional wood chosen for a staircase is French oak (chêne) as the premier, long-lasting choice. Other traditional options include beech (hêtre) for a smooth, budget-friendly hardwood, ash (frêne) for strength, and fir or spruce (sapin / épicéa) for lighter, simpler rural or painted designs.

Staircase at the chateau going in this week. It's been a challenge, 136.6° into a very tight place. Made here in the Mayenne using local QBA french oak. Very difficult to show it's true beauty because of the tight angle.
