For many years now kitchen cabinets have been manufactured using chipboard. Melamine faced chipboard which makes up approximately 90% of the cabinetry utilised for the construction of kitchens, isn't a suitable material for use in a room that generates, steam, humidity and, when we consider the average lifespan of a kitchen, sink leaks. When chipboard is exposed to water ingress, it warps and dete

riorates to such a degree it becomes irreparable. Add to this, the fact that most chipboard a contain formaldehyde that gasses off, particularly in the weeks after installation, and you have the reasons why a new, safer, waterproof cabinet needed developing. Enter, Puustelli, a forward thinking Finnish manufacturer who not only wanted to tackle these 'stand out' issues but to create a range friendlier to our environment. The result, after years in development and heavy investment is the Miinus Range. A pioneering kitchen range that is lighter, stronger, more robust than a conventional kitchen and best of all, it's constructed from an ECO friendly Biocomposite that is waterproof. The door choices in the range still retain the natural beauty of wood but with a big difference. Doors are constructed using a honeycombed core that makes them lighter and less stressful on the hinges and drawer runners and all the beautiful wood species used are sourced from highly sustainable Finnish forests. Less is more.
Puustelli spent no less than four years on development work to create an ecological kitchen. The key ambition was to reduce the carbon footprint in furniture manufacture, taking into account the entire lifecycle of the furniture.

In this kitchen, different shades of grey have their say. The glass cabinet doors assembled from bioframes have been stained dark grey, as have the FosbART furniture doors and the solid block wood counter on top. A glimpse of the same dark grey can also be seen peeking out from above the cupboards. The boldly patterned wall tiles and streamlined panelled ceiling greet each other in various shades of grey and beige.
