what an absolute LUXURY (or is it actually the most basic thing of human life?) to be picking, eating and painting the big abundance of figs in Spain this month.

i saw this vid of ecologist Robin Wall Kimmerer where she says “How are we going to fall in love with the world if you don’t pick berries?” and boi, do i agree now that i’m a professional fig hunter. what a fine way to feel human and be with nature. add in a lil’ community, and you’ve got the secret to life, dontcha?

it think it’s really that simple. such a shame that i have to remind myself of that so often, getting distracted by dentist appointments, deadlines and unanswered whatsapps 👍🏼

we’re making ᴘᴏꜱᴛᴀʀᴛ lads, and this one was for july’s pen pals.

a painting inspired (surprise surprise) by the spanish beach, la herradura to be specific, where we’re meeting each other for a cup of coffee and fresh tostada for breakfast before it gets too hot. i thank you for joining me. meeting with friends for breakfast is already so romantic, but spontaneously at the beach makes it all the better. it’s days like these that make me love living in Spain, though spontaneous beach breakfasts are at an all time low at the moment as we’re too busy surviving and/or escaping the constant heat waves (and everything that comes with it… 💔)

i do however wish you some spontaneous adventures too this summer, and if you’re not into spontaneity, I hope you get to have your favourite type of organised fun.

in the meantime, august’s postart remains a surprise until further notice, BUT, you can subscribe for september’s and receive your art postcard + cute thank you card wrapped with a message for only 5e + the price of a stamp too! eyooo, join the 100 cool kids around the world for some colourful art action 💌

turns out living a creative life is just doing creative things one after another until you die.

i always have a huuuuge list of aaaall creative projects i want to do, and sometimes (all times) it’s about just picking one and getting started and call it play. get paper, start cutting, tada. here’s a fruit bowl that contrary to popular belief you do not have to monetise for it to have value.

any creative plans for the weekend, lads?

hiiiya neighbour, this one’s for you, who’s enjoyed the togetherness of this World Cup as much as i have 🎈.

we’re a bunch of cuties, all out there rowing with the Norwegians,
writing history with Curaçao,
standing up to the town bully with Egypt,
jumping around from left to right with the Dutch,
celebrating hard with the Spanish.
maybe one day we’ll even clean up after ourselves like the Japanese.

just havin’ a good good time.

and this win has been goood, hasn’t it? i might be a tad biased having Spain as my chosen home, but it seems hopeful that you can support 🇵🇸, show up for women’s (football) rights and have a diverse ass team, and win the freakin’ cup.

take away governments and some other party poopers, turns out most of us are just here to have fun while we walk this earth together.

remember when almond trees were initiating the first signs of spring by poppin’ their beautiful flowers?

turns out my fellow Dutchie Van Gogh isn’t the only one inspired by almond blossom abroad. and as I like to put myself in the same paragraph as my heroes, I painted this baddy at the beginning of the year plus, after many layers of trying to find the perfect shade of purplish blue for the background, ordered them as postcards, hand-finished dem postcards and sent them out to the sweet pen pals in my 𝙿𝙾𝚂𝚃𝙰𝚁𝚃 mail club.

now a) the original + b) a few extra hand-finished postcards are available in my shop (open until Saturday). still very happy with how this one turned out, so just wanted to share it with y’all.

slow is good (note to self)

mannn, taking my time for these thank you cards often feels so good and so bad at the same time. if i’d calculate what i make with my mail club per hour (i don’t, but if i would!), and think about how it should be a cash cow, or efficient at least, it feels bad. but when i think about all my sweet pen pals, the sense of community, and the slow life i want to live, it feels mighty fine. a constant battle of artist against capitalism, innit.

so maaates, let’s keep taking our sweet sweet time to create things, the whole point of existing if you ask me. less result, more process, amiright. i’ll save this post as a reminder for myself for next month, haha.

to all my ᴘᴏꜱᴛᴀʀᴛ pen pals, as always, THANK YOU for letting me send you colourful fun each month! feeling connected to all the good in the world because of it, let’s goooo.

subscriptions for august are still open, for just 5e + stamp 💌 xoxo

💌 POSTCARD ALERT 💌

i have just uploaded 12 (twelve) fresh postcards on beautiful sturdy, textured paper* to my site! the beginning of a new era and i am STOKED, because i love the idea of a) offering affordable ways to vibe w/ my art, and b) people sending handwritten messages to each other.

most of these bad boys are from limited edition Postart and available until stock runs out; once they’re gone they won’t be printed ever again. others, like our friend the pigeon and Kate Nash’s lemons, are fruity fresh prints never printed before.

also, if there’s ever any art you’d love to see on a postcard, let me know and i’ll tell the person responsible for product development and design (me 🙋🏼‍♀️). i’m closing for summer on the 18th of July, so consider this a soft launch, and i’ll be adding more of the good stuff in September!

loooove, x

*some come on silky smooth paper, see description and photos to find out

a clear message from our gal 🐄

guys, we’re on a roll. painting fast, having fun, adding text; we’re loving it. ‘we’ being me and this cow, and maybe you?

I’m thinking of turning these text paintings into postcards, let me know if that’d be something you’d want in your life. while i wait for your response, i’m just gonna keep painting.

thanks for watching loves x

Astrid
