a project in the heart of Zell am See, Austria, where architecture isn’t just about creating a beautiful building—it’s about respecting the landscape, climate, and local identity.

For this concept, we stepped away from our usual design language and embraced the spirit of the Austrian Alps. Warm natural timber, handcrafted balcony details, overflowing flower boxes, and proportions inspired by traditional alpine chalets all come together to create a home that feels like it truly belongs to its surroundings.

Great architecture doesn’t force its identity onto a place—it learns from it.

MASAR Architects won the prestigious Best Architectural Design award in the Reboot Retreat competition hosted by Archmello. Our winning project, titled “Barzakh: A Journey of Catharsis,” is sited on Pharaoh’s Island in Taba, Egypt. It introduces a contemporary wellness retreat designed around a structured spiritual path that integrates the island’s natural landscape with the historic citadel. The design features an exquisite curved glass and timber bridge canopy that frames reflections across the water. Guided by principles of isolation and reconnecting through architecture, the layout maps key spaces—including meditation zones, an ancient olive grove, and modern glass-and-wooden structural interventions—to create a transformative, cathartic sanctuary for visitors.
