[Alibaba Zoo Concept Store: A Scene-Based Spatial Practice to Redefine Offline Consumer Experiences]
The Alibaba Zoo Concept Store revolves around the theme of a “Forest Market,” creating an immersive retail space that blends natural aesthetics, experiential design, and brand storytelling. By breaking away from traditional display shelves and embracing a “product-as-scene” approach, the store establishes a new consumption ecosystem, becoming a landmark for young audiences seeking in-person experiences and social engagement.

Minimalist Spatial Aesthetics
Built on an orange-toned palette, the design integrates metal frames with lush greenery to break the cluttered feel of traditional retail environments. Through strategic use of white space and orderly displays, it highlights the vibrancy of the products while fostering a sense of visual clarity—achieving an aesthetic balance where “products naturally blend into the scene.”

Dual-Narrative Experiential Scenes
The space combines multimedia screens with real plants to craft an interactive “secret forest” ambiance, immersing consumers in a natural, sensory environment. Open metal shelving and iconically structured displays evoke the feel of a creative street market, making the browsing experience more engaging, relaxed, and fun.

Symbolic Scene Reconstruction
Drawing inspiration from the visual language of airport terminals and shipping container docks, the space incorporates elements such as containers, turnover boxes, and anti-moisture pallets to recreate the spatial memory of a “global transit hub.” Shelving adopts a container-style modular layout, with a cold, industrial aesthetic that reflects the cross-border nature of maritime logistics. This immersive scene-building breaks away from the traditional supermarket shelving logic, transforming the brand concept of “shop the world without leaving the country” into a tangible spatial experience.

De-branded Display Strategy
Abandoning the clutter of brand-heavy retail spaces, the store is designed as a “distraction-free shopping environment.” Instead of overwhelming key visuals and brand posters, uniform-toned container shelves dominate the space. Products are organized modularly by category (beauty, baby, food, etc.), reminiscent of neatly stacked shipping containers at a dock. This “de-labeled” approach refocuses consumer attention on the products themselves.

Spatial Design Concept

Subtractive Aesthetics of Native Textures
Preserving the "traces of time" in the old villa—weathered walls and scuffed floors—while rejecting excessive renovation. The architecture itself becomes the foundation of a vintage narrative. Old flooring is dismantled and repurposed into dining tables, extending the spatial memory from the "ground" to the "tabletop," achieving a dual inheritance of material and emotion.

Color Contrasts Ignite a Modern Vibe
Within a neutral base of aged wood and concrete walls, vibrant accents like emerald green and Hermès orange are injected. These high-saturation hues break the dullness of the retro space, striking a visual balance between "Shanghai-style nostalgia" and "youthful modernity."

Social Gravity of the Central Island Kitchen
Breaking the barrier between the back kitchen and dining area, the chef's workstation becomes the core of the space. Diners are seated in a circle around it, turning the cooking process into a visible and tangible interaction. This recreates the warmth of "gathering around the stove" and softens the formality often associated with Western dining, enhancing a friendly and intimate atmosphere.

 White Shirt × Fragrance – A Scented Love Song Composed by Morning Light
As morning light filters through the folds of sheer curtains, it flows like golden gauze across a crisp white shirt. The breathability we infuse into the space hides in the blink of an eye—when the visual focus softens in the morning glow, scent becomes the anchor of memory. Perfume curls through the air, distilling time into amber-colored heartbeats, making every morning a tender fold in one’s olfactory memory.
 A Lively Space Woven from Light and Shadow
Standing in the morning light, dressed in a white shirt, you seem to step into a dreamscape crafted just for you. A gentle breeze stirs, your shirt hem fluttering—swaying the very edges of the "space" itself. Each motion stretches the depth of the space, transforming it from a flat surface into a flowing, three-dimensional presence. The boundary between reality and imagination becomes blurred. With its unique lightness and fluidity, this space turns every fleeting moment within it into a timeless, beautiful memory.
