A great look behind the scenes at the Ingersoll District Curling Club!

Their team recently shared this walkthrough of their Oxford refrigeration system, highlighting features such as variable-speed operation, energy efficiency and the control they have over their ice conditions.

It is always rewarding to hear a club explain—in its own words—how the system supports its facility and day-to-day operation. Thank you to Ingersoll District Curling Club for sharing!

Good ice conditions depend on more than simply keeping things cold.

As conditions change throughout the day, the refrigeration system needs to respond to the actual load. Precise control allows capacity to adjust as needed, helping maintain more consistent ice temperatures without running equipment harder than necessary.

For curling clubs and arenas, that balance matters — both for ice quality and energy use.

It's one of the reasons we believe good ice starts with good control.

Not every ice facility has the space — or the need — for a completely packaged outdoor refrigeration system.

At Gore Bay Curling Club, the refrigeration system was configured with an indoor compressor station and a remote outdoor condenser, allowing the equipment layout to work with the existing facility.

It's one example of why ice plant design starts with the building — not with a standard equipment layout.

Built Around the Facility

No two ice facilities are exactly alike — and the refrigeration system shouldn't assume they are.

Building around the facility can mean an outdoor packaged system, an indoor compressor station with a remote condenser, or a retrofit designed to work with useful existing infrastructure.

That's something we'll be exploring here: not just the equipment, but why different ice facilities call for different approaches.
