Same house. Completely different feel. ✨

A renovation can do more than update a space — it can completely change the way your home looks, feels and functions. Sometimes it really does feel like you moved into a brand new house… without ever changing your address.

We completed this kitchen and main floor transformation for these clients, and we’re excited to now be back in the design phase for their second-floor primary suite and bathroom.

Every third Friday, we step away from the jobsites. 👷‍♂️

Our regular hours at Valdek are Monday–Thursday, 8–5, and Fridays, 8–12. Every third Friday, we use that morning to bring the whole crew together for a team meeting.

It’s a chance to look at the bigger picture.

We review recently completed projects — what went well, what we learned, and where we can improve. We talk through our current projects, where they’re at, what’s coming next, and the goals we’re working toward. Then we look ahead at upcoming projects so everyone has a better understanding of what’s on the horizon.

These meetings give our office and field teams a chance to share perspectives, learn from one another, solve problems together, and stay connected as one team.

Because the more we communicate, reflect and plan ahead behind the scenes, the smoother we can make the renovation experience for our clients.

Always learning. Always improving. Always planning for what’s next. 🛠️

👀 Every Tuesday, our projects get a few extra sets of eyes on them.

Along with Chris and Triston’s regular time on site, Matt, our Project Coordinators Chris and Triston, and our Designer Kaylee walk through our active projects together as a team.

These walkthroughs give everyone a chance to look at the project from a different perspective — design, production, scheduling, coordination, workmanship and the overall big picture.

It’s an opportunity to see how things are progressing, catch details early, talk through upcoming steps and make sure everyone is aligned on what’s happening next.

Because sometimes one person sees something another might not — and having the whole team walk the project together helps us stay proactive rather than reactive.

New project underway 👀

We’ve officially started a new project and demolition is complete on the existing sunroom to make way for something brand new.

This project includes a new sunroom, garage, and carport — all designed to better suit the homeowners’ needs and make the space more functional both inside and out.

It’s always exciting to get started at this stage. The old structure is gone, the site is cleared, and the transformation can begin.

We love sharing not just the finished spaces, but the process it takes to get there.

Meet Mallory 👋 - Project Administrator

Mallory is the Project Administrator at Valdek Construction and plays a big role in keeping projects, people, and all the little details organized behind the scenes.

She supports the team with scheduling, estimating, project documentation, payroll, expenses, bookkeeping, marketing, and day-to-day coordination — basically helping make sure information stays clear, timelines stay on track, and important details don’t get missed along the way.

Mallory is also Matt’s wife, making Valdek very much a family business both in and out of the office.

She works closely with Matt, the Valdek team, and trades to help keep projects moving smoothly. She enjoys creating systems, solving problems, and bringing some structure to the many moving pieces that come with renovating someone’s home.

Her goal is to help make the process feel organized, transparent, and manageable for both the team and our clients.

Outside of work, Mallory enjoys reading, bird watching, is currently writing a fantasy novel, and has a pet snake, hamster, and dog — because apparently life wasn’t busy enough already. 😂

Maybe you don’t need a new house. Maybe you need your house to work differently. 🏡

Families change. Kids grow. The kitchen that worked ten years ago suddenly feels cramped. You need another bedroom, a proper mudroom, more storage, or simply more room to live.

Maybe that extra space looks like a bright sunroom — somewhere to relax, enjoy the sunshine, have your morning coffee, or spend time with family.

And sometimes you already love the important parts — your street, your neighbours, your yard, your kids’ school, the memories you’ve made there.

That’s where renovating or adding on can make a lot of sense.

Instead of starting over somewhere else, we can look at what isn’t working in your current home and figure out whether the space can be reconfigured, opened up, or expanded to better suit the way you live now.

From the Valdek archives 👀

We completed this Scandinavian-inspired kitchen back in 2022, and it’s still one of those projects we love looking back on.

The custom-made Baltic birch cabinetry brings so much warmth and natural character to the space, paired with beautiful soapstone countertops for that deep, dramatic contrast.

Clean lines, simple finishes, open shelving, black accents and that statement linear light all come together for a kitchen that feels modern without feeling cold.

And because the cabinetry was completely custom, every part of the space could be designed around how the homeowners actually use their kitchen — from the full-height storage to the integrated pulls and built-in appliance spaces.

Four years later, we’d say this one has aged pretty darn well. 🙌

There’s a lot happening in this photo — and that’s kind of the point.

Before the finished spaces, there are concrete trucks, material deliveries, garbage bins, equipment, trades, inspections, schedules and a whole lot of moving pieces that need to line up.

A big part of a renovation happens behind the scenes before — and while — the tools are running. We’re coordinating materials, trades, deliveries, site logistics and the crew schedule so everyone knows what needs to happen next.

An active renovation site isn’t always pretty while the work is happening. 😅 But at the end of each day, our crew takes the time to tidy the site, organize materials and tools, and leave the space as clean and safe as possible before heading home.

Because good project management isn’t just about what gets built — it’s also about how the job is managed along the way.
