Better late than never!!

Was busy doing a refresh to a service rig in that odd in-between Christmas and New Years week. It's been a wild ride this year. Finishing up school, getting the red seal, starting a wee company, beginning to pick up contracts with other local companies, verifying my first FAS solo... Utterly gobsmacked and grateful.

Happy New Year from me to all of you. Thank you for helping us get off the ground - we're only going up from here!

Woke up this morning and thought, well that's frosty!

Here's your reminder to check your outside plugs (or in this case, truck rails) and make sure you can plug the block heater in for that big old truck you've got, or your wee little car. As much as we don't want to admit it, it's that time of year again!

Need a hand? Give us a call - serving Flatbush to Faust and all points in between!

Every year I do my best to be at the local Legion to participate in Remeberance Day ceremonies. My Grandfather, and the company namesake - Hugh Boniface "Red Hughie" MacDonald was a private with the PEI Highlanders and the Cape Breton Highlanders. He was stationed in Newfoundland, England, Italy and Belgium and received five medals for his participation in the services. He was enlisted for six years.

My younger brother Kevin currently serves with the Royal Canadian Navy. He has been in the regular forces for 10 years now.

At 11am tomorrow, no matter where you happen to be, please take a moment of silence to remember those who fought for our freedom in the past, and those that serve to protect that freedom now and in the future.

What these guys and gals do amazes me! Linesmen make all the cool stuff us electricians build actually work. I can't make the Zeus Juice flow unless they bring it to me.

We've got some wicked awesome linesmen in Slave Lake. Next time its -40 and your power goes out for only an hour or five, thank the linesmen who are out freezing in the middle of the night to get you back online!

What do you do for a living?
I try to make spaghetti look good and do the job I want it to!

How would you explain your job in a humorous way?

A trick I came up with when trying to find holes I've drilled when running wires in dark, cramped spots, like crawl spaces- a pack of dollarstore glowsticks with the lanyard strings and something to tie them to up top.

Less time spent cursing and hunting for holes in crawlspaces, the better!

Sometimes you have to sit and do some planning work before you actually get down to doing the physical work.

The Code gives you the foundation, the what you absolutely need. Customer needs, and your imagination give you the rest.

Electricians - doing art most people will never see the full extent of since Edison, Tesla, and Westinghouse were fighting it out 😅

Yesterday I was working on another project for a lovely lady. Changing out a wee 4 circuit FP in her garage, bringing a new power cable to the garage, and adding an outside plug on the garage. Her old wiring was coming from her house from a metal pipe into the ground to her panel. The metal had separated from the side of the house and exposed the wiring inside, had detoriated from being in the soil, and also housed a surprise that was sheathed inside! Replaced the old metal LB with a PVC junction box, which allowed me to use teck90 cable (approved for direct burial) to bring power to the newly installed panel.

This update made the installation safe and code compliant, and made for another happy day for the customer.

Got a wee little panel (or a bigger one) you would like to bring into the modern era? Give us a call and we will be happy to discuss you ideas.
