What is plasma?
Plasma is the fourth state of matter. It’s a super-hot gas where atoms are split apart into positive ions and free electrons. Because those charged pieces can move around, plasma can carry electricity and react to magnets.
Where do we find it?
Plasma makes up 99.9% of everything we can see in space. Stars, the Sun, lightning, and the glowing clouds in nebulas are all made of plasma. Even the space between planets has thin plasma.
What makes it special?
1. High energy- It’s much hotter than solids, liquids, or regular gases
2. Magnetic power- Magnetic and electric fields can push and shape it
3. Conducts electricity- That’s why it’s used in TVs, neon signs, and even rocket engines
So when you see the Sun shine or lightning flash, you’re watching plasma in action. It’s the most common “stuff” in the universe, and engineers use it to build cool tech here on Earth.
