I have spent 4 years as a specialty Stump grinding service. In my time, an important law I have always followed is ordering a locating service prior to removing front-yard Stumps.

I see Privet hedges less often than I do Cedar. They are equally stunning landscape features due to their dense leaves, fast growing, as well as beautiful white flowers in the spring.

I was delighted to be invited back to this property for a second year, after a major corrective pruning last year to bring these previously wild Privets back under control.

I love trimming, but boy was this week a hot one.

When a hedge is left to grow wild for 5 Years, it can be easy to forget how beautifully they can be maintained.

Journey Stump Services was thrilled to be trusted with the responsibility of taming this hedge for our client and bringing this manicured beauty back to life. As well as creating clearance in the adjacent pear tree, to allow the two to grow without conflict, and remove some hazardous deadwood to make the property safer for their young child.

Stump grinding is a particular specialty of mine. For 6 years it was my sole service provided through my company.

Often when removing a Stump, home owners aren't available to have the privilege of seeing the various stages of the process.

Here's an image representation of before as well as during a deep root excavation to allow for driveway expansion. Notice the ground is being excavated to a depth exceeding the stumps base root structure.

Final image showcases the cleanup of work site after the hole has been backfiled and excess debris disposed of. This is the condition I always strive to leave my clients properties. Clean and tidy.

I order utility locates prior to ALL front yard excavations to determine the location of underground dangers. This primarily includes gas and power lines.

Stump Grinding projects can often be quite unique.
In this case, it was an aggressive hardwood Norway Maple protruding 8 inches above grade.

In order to do the job properly to reammend the grass in this area, we grinded a total work space of 8x15 feet. To ensure effective work and reduce future complications, we removed the stump a minimum 6 inches below future intended grade.

This past Thursday, I had the pleasure of encountering a new maintenance / small engine repair that needed tending to.

My Hedge Trimmer began giving me problems this past week, and after having replaced all standard components that commonly wear, it became apparent that I needed to look deeper; My Carburetor to be exact.

I'd never done a Carburetor maintenance or cleaning before, so found this to be a fun experience to learn something new whilst bringing one of my small engines back to peak operating condition.

I may even begin offering small engine maintenance with the host of repairs and maintenance I've learned to do over the past 6 years in operating my business.

I find value in being reminded of the importance of maintenance and proper tool care. Such a small component attached to an engine, yet oh so critical in the appropriate Air/Gas ratio that enters.
