With this heat wave, there are a few things you can do to help the house stay cool.
1. If you have ceiling fans, run them counter-clockwise to distribute the air.
2. Keep all window coverings closed during the day.
3. Don't open your windows at night, even if it cools down: this lets in all the humid air that your A/C has been working all day to get rid of.
4. Your A/C can only cool your house to approximately 20F (11C) difference in temperature from outside. If it's 90F (32C) outside, your A/C won't normally be able to cool lower that about 70F (21C) at best. Turning the temperature lower will just use more electricity and may cause the unit to freeze up.
5. Make sure that your furnace filters are NOT the pleated ones. Cold, dense air can't get through these easily.

Looks like the warm weather is finally sticking around. Things to check when you turn on your air conditioner for the first time:
1. if your condensing unit outside was covered, be sure to remove it.
2. make sure the thermostat is set to cool
3. change your heavy duty winter filters to less dense ones to allow better air flow for summer
4. check that your return grilles are clear of obstructions and your supply grilles are open
5. using a garden hose, not pressure washer, spray off the condensing unit outside
6. once you start running the A/C, keep the windows closed to avoid introducing humidity into the home

Happy cooling season!

Wildly erratic weather. Cold and rainy, heat warnings, more rain ahead. Air conditioner off , then on, then off again. What a start to Spring! Our recommendation: once you turn your A/C on, don't turn it off again, simply adjust the temperature up and down to suit your comfort. Also, remember to check or change the furnace filter monthly. Air flow goes through this filter whether you are heating or cooling and if it gets plugged, it can not only affect the performance of your system but can also do damage to your equipment. We might still have some cold days ahead, but Spring is definitely on its way. Time to take the cover off your A/C condensing unit outside (if you put one on). Feel free to spray using a garden hose ONLY to give it a quick rinse. It's also a good time to check the filter in your furnace. This seemingly small item is what protects your equipment and keeps the air flowing, winter and summer!

Now that we've got more snow, don't forget to clear all your exterior vents.. keep those furnaces running!!

11/13/2025

Now that the snow has made an appearance, here's a gentle reminder to NOT put a full cover on your A/C unit outside. Doing that provides a warm, cozy place for critters to make a nest, potentially chewing through wires. It also encourages rust formation. It is often forgotten in the warm spring weather, which causes damage to the motor if not removed before start up. If you feel strongly about covering the unit, cover only the top of the unit, leaving the sides open. Happy Fall!

Summer weather is almost here! Be sure to check the performance of your A/C system. Clean or change the filter in your furnace (using a low MERV so air flow is not restricted), rinse off your outdoor condensing unit (using a regular garden hose ONLY), make sure both supply and return air grills are free of any obstructions. Also remember to keep your windows closed when running your A/C so the humidity level in the house stays low. Enjoy the warm weather!
