Orca Masonry LTD is growing our pod here in Greater Victoria. We're looking for:

• Experienced masons — brick, block and stone
• Waterproofers — spray membrane and drain mat on commercial foundation walls
• Labourers

Masons: if you've got 3+ years on the tools working with brick, stone, block, veneer and flagstone, a valid BC driver's licence, and the right to work in Canada, we'd love to hear from you.

The work: brick, block and stone, chimneys and fireplaces, repointing and restoration, and commercial foundation waterproofing — done to a 9/10 quality bar, every time.

Full-time, permanent, 40 hours a week, typically 7 AM to 4 PM, on job sites across Greater Victoria. Start as soon as possible. Great benefits, and you'll learn beside senior masons, including a Red Seal Journeyman.

Fall is here, and that means two things on the Island: the first fires of the season and the start of the rain.

Before you light that first fire, it's worth having your chimney looked at. Cracked crowns, loose or missing mortar and worn flashing are what let water in, and once the rain settles in, a small gap can turn into a leak, stained ceilings and damaged brick by spring. A quick inspection now means a safer fire and a dry winter.

We restored the granite staircase at the memorial at Royal Oak Burial Park, and it's one of those projects that stays with you. Tread by tread and landing by landing, the goal was simple: a path up to the cross that feels as steady and dignified as the place deserves.

Granite is about as honest as stone gets. It's tough, it wears well, and when it's looked after it'll outlast all of us. That's the kind of work we want to leave behind.
