Small jobs matter!

Some home owners can be pressed to find tradesmen that will help them, especially small scale projects.

Upon receiving the request to paint this small extension of a three-car garage, I was glad to help.

The project entailed a remedy to deficient-previous workmanship, years of contact with the walls, and the removal of shelves:

• numerous drywall patches, including a few significant-sized holes, many popped-drywall screws, and nicks and dents

• priming of drywall (previously unprimed) with Benjamin Moore's Fresh Start High-hiding primer

• applying Benjamin Moore's Ceiling Paint

• the painting of walls with Benjamin Moore's Regal Select High Build paint.

The client was an absolute pleasure to work for!

Meticulous and thorough workmanship starts with proper preparation!

At the beginning of this basement project, in addition to covering the gym equipment, floors, the wall mounted tv, and applying painters-blue tape on the baseboards, I carefully inspected the surfaces designated for painting: the gypsum board ceilings and walls.

Upon completion I discovered a significant amount of popped-drywall screws, minor wall dents, and corner bead and ceiling cracks.

I used DAP's DryDex Spackling to repair the drywall as not only does it result in flawless patching, but it doesn’t flash through the finish paint.

To complete the project I used Benjamin Moore’s Ceiling Paint and Regal Select wall paint for a long-lasting, qualitative paint finish.

One of the best ways to ensure your painting project is successfully completed and with the least amount of time is to clear all objects on and near walls, allowing for a minimum of 4 feet of work space!

A few tips when a handyman or tradesman is scheduled to do work at your home:

• offer coffee in the morning
• clear out rooms or areas designated for work
• accommodate temperature preference
• do not hover during work

Although not included in the article I would add do not ask personal questions about:

• heritage or religion
• marital status
• where the individual lives
• anything else that is personal

With the consistent rain here in Southern Ontario, "time is of the essence" when it comes to exterior stain projects.

This project was a prime example, as the homeowners were fully on board with the start and completion of the exterior staining of the backyard-hot tub canopy (on Tuesday and Wednesday) before Thursday's rain, which came in great amounts as of this post.

Instead of priming and painting, my suggestion of using Olympic Stains in a solid (opaque) finish in an Ebony colour to match the fence proved to be the perfect complement.

An absolute pleasure working for homeowners whose effort to accommodate was only outmatched by their kindness and respect.

Being able to step into this project immediately and provide affordable painting solutions was particularly gratifying, helping a lovely retired couple with their interior and exterior painting projects.

Older homes can have older problems!

To remedy those problems, I caulked, patched and sanded door, frame, baseboard and drywall surfaces; primed and painted those surfaces to ensure a long-lasting finish, and a proper result: painting solutions without compromise!

I was pleased to restore this front yard pergola-deck project.

Sometimes, it is a matter of just being at the right place at the right time, which is precisely what happened here: I met the owner at her front yard during flyer deliveries.

After providing the owner with the time frame to complete this project, as well as my forthcoming explanation as to how I would prepare the wood, and subsequently apply a stain-sealer product, I got the job on the spot.

Always a pleasure stepping into the right project, and to be at the service to those who could really use affordable and thorough staining services, especially for the elderly.

Many of my exterior staining projects are a serious effort to recover and restore weathered wood to its natural beauty.

Most homeowners do not intend to neglect their exterior wood, but over the years have become desensitized to its slow, but steady deterioration that, one day, can no longer be ignored!

This particular project entailed both a chemical treatment and thorough sanding. It was in part a collaborative effort: after asking my advice and instruction, the homeowner took it upon himself to chemically wash the deck-floor boards and steps, which not only lifted the dirt and contaminants from the wood, but made it that much easier to sand!

Got along fabulously with this homeowner who made the project an overall pleasure to work on!

Proper workmanship makes no distinction between the location and the areas/items designated for painting! Treating a client's home like it is my own is my attitude and approach when providing thorough and affordable painting and staining services.

I also stained the same garage doors, at the exterior, with Olympic Stains.
