A reflection from our founder, Billie-Jo:

I grew up in a small town where everyone knew everything about you.

Who your parents were.
What you did last weekend.
What mistake you made when you were sixteen.

When I was younger, all I wanted was to leave.

But something shifted in my late twenties.

I started to miss it.

I missed running into people at the grocery store.
I missed knowing my neighbours the way I knew my family.
I missed feeling like I belonged somewhere.

That’s the heart of what Mudfest was built on.

Not just mud.
Not just trucks.
Not just music.

Community.

Small businesses showing up for each other.
Friends volunteering after work.
Families creating memories together.

After all these years in the mud, one thing stands out clearly:

People don’t just support businesses that sell them something.

They support businesses that support their community.

That’s the real power of small towns.

And that’s the spirit behind everything we do at TFC.

Billie on a recent podcast conversation with on The Open Concept Podcast 👇

You’re going to have haters.
It’s part of the process.

If you’re building something real, taking risks, putting your name on the line, criticism comes with the territory.

But here’s the shift 👇

If you’re not in the arena with us, taking the hits, carrying the weight, solving the problems, your opinion doesn’t get to live rent free in our minds.

True builders don’t tear down.
They say:
“That sucks. How can I help?”

That’s the difference.

The ROI of impact is not measured in dollars.
It is measured in lives changed.

Over the past few years, The Festival Company has changed.

Not because we built a new marketing plan.
Not because we chased trends.

It changed because life changed.

Spending time in hospital rooms. In the NICU. In clinics.

Listening to families doing their best with what they had.

Once you see that world, you cannot unsee it.

We realized something simple.

If you have a stage, you have a responsibility.

Stages.
Audiences.
Sponsors.
Media.

Platforms that can be used for good.

Around 2020, when we launched our first Lifted nonprofit event, we saw what was really happening in our communities.

Kids going to school hungry.
Families navigating underfunded systems.
Mental health supports out of reach.

That was the turning point.

Giving back became non negotiable.

Not as an afterthought.
As part of how we operate.

As we move into 2026, we are not focused on flashier or bigger.

We are focused on impact.

Small movements.
Done with heart.

Small businesses can change the world.

On a recent podcast, Billie shared how The Festival Company came to life.

She began in talent buying, working between festivals and agencies under a traditional model. Along the way, she recognized opportunities to serve clients better and approach events differently.

That realization led her to build a boutique company rooted in a hospitality first philosophy. Not only booking talent, but advancing shows, managing logistics, and running back of house so producers could focus on delivering an exceptional experience.

Within six months, she secured her first major client in Newfoundland. Soon after, an opportunity to build a new festival emerged. That project became Mudfest. When the original investor stepped away, Billie chose to continue building it.

Thirteen years later, Mudfest has grown into the largest motorsports and music festival in the country, expanded to a second location in Dawson Creek, and most recently brought the team to Abu Dhabi after being invited to perform at the Liwa Festival.

The Festival Company was born from a simple principle: when people ask if you can do it, you lean in, figure it out, and deliver with excellence.

We may operate in entertainment, but we are in the hospitality and service business at our core. Our mission is your success. The reward is the celebration.

Most businesses think events are about selling tickets or filling a room.

They’re wrong.

Events are your megaphone. They are one of the loudest, most powerful tools you can use to grow your brand and amplify your impact.

Events build community.
They create moments where people gather, connect, and feel like they belong. That’s how loyalty is built.

Events create content.
One event can fuel months of photos, videos, stories, and testimonials.

Events amplify purpose.
They give you a stage to declare what you stand for.

Stop thinking of events as one-off moments. Start seeing them as the megaphone that amplifies your brand, your values, and your story.

Because the stage is not just for the performance.
It’s for the message.

Giving back isn’t something we add on when it’s convenient.
It’s something we build into how we operate.

When you have access to platforms, audiences, and visibility, that access come with responsibility. Once you see what’s happening in your community, you can’t unsee it.

For us, giving back is not optional.
It’s non-negotiable.

Big projects can feel overwhelming.

We get it. Event management is big projects, on repeat.

At The Festival Company, every event is like building a mini-business inside our business. Over time, we’ve learned that progress doesn’t come from doing everything at once. It comes from taking the best next step.

When projects feel big, we come back to three things.
Get quiet and get clear.

Begin with the end in mind.
Keep it simple.

It’s not about doing more.
It’s about doing the right things, in the right order.

What we don’t talk about enough is impact.

The kind you don’t track in spreadsheets.
The kind you can’t neatly put into reports.
The kind that doesn’t show up in quarterly numbers, but shows up in real life.

Impact is something you feel.
You see it in your community.
You see it when you’re close enough to what’s actually happening around you.

This is something we believe deeply at The Festival Company. It’s why giving back is not optional for us, it’s part of how we operate. Because once you see what’s happening in your community, you can’t unsee it. And when you have access to platforms, audiences, and visibility, that access comes with responsibility.

For us, giving back isn’t about recognition or checking a box. It’s about showing up, paying attention, and using what we have to support what matters.

That’s the kind of return we believe in.
