Expansion joint installation and what I like to call some "magic bricks"

Seeing as this location is hiding on the back of the building and they will eventually be applying an exterior wall coating I used some polymer modified hydraulic cement to shape some bricks.
This was the best option as I would have had a difficult time finding the proper size brick and would most likely have to cut each one, nor would they have matched in colour.

The client was very impressed and now we use this solution all the time on this building.

Once this has cured out for another 2 weeks the expansion joint will be completed to the end.

Commercial grade caulking at its finest!

This was not an easy removal and installation. Once the joints were removed I had to remove all the mortar on the stones as well and that was some extremely stong stuff!
After the clean up, backer rod and isopropyl wipe was next, and then installation.

Another Job on The old Penman mill condo's.

This is also due to the new door installation, properly prepped and installed. On this 36° day using hydraulic cement was not the funnest but it was the fastest curing option in a high traffic zone.
Caulking installation is in two weeks so I will post again once that has been completed.

Here is a job I did this year on a 157-year old building (The Penman mill in Paris, ON) which has now been turned into condo's now.

They had the old door removed and installed a new anodized aluminum steel frame. The installer had some issues figuring out how to seal it to the cobblestone foundation being as it was more than 4 inches wide in some spots.

I was requested to figure something out from the client. So, I decided to put a form on the frame with some quick support rods and clamps. I installed some tap cons and steel coated wire for anchorage and then began packing it with polymer modified hydraulic cement. Once the cement was cured for a few weeks I finished the caulking around the top and sides. The bottom will wait for now as it is part of another project.
