One year later… 🌳

We stopped back to check on a landscape installation we completed last spring, and this is exactly what we hope to see.

The Black Cedar privacy hedge has established beautifully, the crabapples have put on excellent new growth, and the hemlocks are thriving despite being planted beneath a mature tree canopy.

Successful tree planting isn’t just about what goes in the ground on day one.

It’s about:
✔️ Investing in high-quality nursery stock.
✔️ Planting at the proper depth with correct root flare exposure.
✔️ Preparing the soil appropriately.
✔️ Applying mulch correctly (without creating mulch volcanoes).
✔️ And most importantly… providing consistent irrigation during the establishment period.

The first one to three years after planting are the most critical. Even the best trees can struggle without adequate water, while healthy, properly planted trees with good aftercare reward you with years of vigorous growth.

It’s always rewarding to revisit a project and see everything filling in exactly as planned. That’s the difference proper installation and aftercare can make.

Elite Tree Care Inc. is growing and we’re looking for an experienced Production Arborist to join our team.

What We’re Looking For
✅ Minimum 3 years of climbing experience
✅ Comfortable performing proper structural, maintenance, and risk-reduction pruning of mature trees in the urban environment
✅ Strong understanding of modern arboricultural practices and industry standards
✅ Positive attitude and works well within a team environment
✅ Reliable, punctual, and accountable
✅ Strong communication skills with coworkers and clients
✅ Willingness to learn, improve, and pursue continuing education
✅ ISA Certified Arborist or actively working toward certification
✅ Valid driver’s licence (Class D with air brake endorsement is a strong asset)
Additional Qualifications Considered Assets
• Experience with technical removals and rigging operations
• Experience operating aerial lifts
• Knowledge of tree identification, tree biology, and tree risk assessment
• Experience mentoring apprentices and newer climbers
• First Aid/CPR certification
• Experience operating chippers, skid steers, stump grinders, and other arborist equipment

This mature spruce failed during recent high winds, snapping at the trunk and causing significant damage to a vehicle and property.

Upon closer inspection, the failure point shows clear internal decay — a structural defect that weakens the tree from the inside out. The challenging part?
From the outside, trees like this can still appear relatively normal to the untrained eye.

This massive White Oak in Deer Park took our crew of four climbers and a full day to carefully remove deadwood throughout the canopy.

Trees like this are living history. White oaks can live 200–400+ years, and judging by the size and structure of this one, it could easily be over two centuries old.

Deadwood removal helps reduce risk while preserving the health and longevity of mature trees like this.

Working on a tree of this scale in a tight urban backyard takes experience, teamwork, and careful climbing through a historic canopy.
