Tech Brian from the Toronto SWAT Division was called to inspect a shed on a Toronto property.

As he looked around with his flashlight, he started to sense he was not alone. Trusting his instincts, Brian got low, followed the clues, and quickly found the source of the activity: a mother raccoon with her babies tucked away inside.

Finding the family is the first step. From there, SWAT can safely and humanely relocate the babies so mom can move them to a new nesting site.

Derick and the Scarborough SWAT Division were called to a home where the roofline had recently been repaired. While the work was being completed, the homeowner also wanted to protect their downspouts from raccoon activity.

Raccoons often use water drainage downspouts like ladders to climb up and access rooflines. They can grip around the spout with their paws and pull themselves up with ease. If you are seeing dirt marks, damage, or signs of climbing along your downspout, it may be a sign that raccoons are using it to reach your roof.

Tech Tony from the Durham Region SWAT Division was called to a residence for a high-access bat inspection.

While up on a 40-foot ladder, Tony noticed bat guano on the window ledge. After looking higher, he discovered a large gap between the brick and the roofline, which was being used as an access point.

During the inspection, Tony found an unfortunate bat that had become stuck and did not survive. After confirming it was a mother bat, the situation became a baby season concern, meaning proper care, timing, and exclusion planning were needed.

Tony got to work installing proper bat exclusion protection to help secure the home and prevent future access. Attic top up continues 🏠

This time, Brian and Derick start by measuring and marking the proper R-value in the attic so Randy knows exactly where the new insulation needs to level off.

Then it is time to fire up the Genny, get the blow-in machine running, and feed the hose from the trailer, through the home, up each level, and into the attic hatch.

Once the hose reaches the attic, Randy suits up and gets to work blowing in fresh insulation over the existing layer to help improve the home’s thermal efficiency.

The SWAT team is on site for an attic insulation top up.

Pest system check with Tech Jimmy 🐭

A customer asked if the pest management system was working, and Jimmy had the answer right inside the bait station.

After checking the stations around the property, he found a dead mouse, a clear sign that the system was doing its job.

Tech James and Tech Tony were called to a Durham Region residence that is currently going through renovations.

During the process, the homeowner discovered an active paper wasp nest tucked up under the roof and called SWAT Wildlife to have it removed properly.

This was James’ first paper wasp nest of the season, and he took a calm, collected approach. He treated the nest first, then carefully secured it in a bag for full removal.

Deck wildlife proofing complete 🦝

In the follow-up to Brian’s Toronto deck job, the trenching is done and now it is time to install the mesh, backfill the dirt, protect the water lines and electrical, and put everything back the way it was.

Brian made sure the utilities were covered properly, the plants were reset, and the whole area got a good rinse down.

By the end, the backyard looked brand new and the deck was fully wildlife proofed.

New deck, new raccoon problem 🦝

Tech Brian from the Toronto SWAT Division was called to a home where a newly installed deck had become a nesting ground for local raccoons.

After inspecting the area, Brian found the entry point and the clear signs that critters had been getting underneath. He got to work trenching along the perimeter of the deck and installing protective mesh to help stop future access.

But trenching is not always as simple as digging. Water lines and electrical wiring were running along the same perimeter, which meant careful work was needed to protect the home while sealing it properly.

Tech Randy, also known as Rand-man, was called to a property where an aggressive wasp nest had become a serious problem near the residence.

These wasps were territorial, active, and not making life easy for the homeowners. SWAT was called in to remove the nest and take care of these angry neighbours properly.

Randy inspected the area, located the nest, set up his ladder, suited up, and got to work. Using his pole pruner, he was able to cut the nest down, bring it safely to ground level, and secure it for proper removal.

With the nest removed, the homeowners can enjoy their property without worrying about more wasp attacks or constant nuisance activity.
