KT Photography

KT Photography One doesn't take a photograph... you ask, quietly, to borrow it. - Unknown I believe in capturing you, your tears, your laughter, you love.

Your mom’s tears. I believe in capturing the look your man gives you when he sees you for the first time and you take his breath away. Or the way your hands shake as you put the ring on his finger. Or the way you look as you dance in your father’s arms for the first time as a grown woman, and not his little girl. I don’t think weddings should be a charade of trying recreate all of the awesome shot

s on pinterest. The cheerleader pyramids and the charlie’s angels’ poses are not the things that I think will bring you to your knees in twenty five years when your kids make a slideshow for your anniversary. I truly believe that life and love is truly FANTASTIC just the way that it is! I think every bride and every mom should be able to look back at her photos and feel something. Simply stated, I'll capture you the fantasticism of stolen moments! (You must know I also enjoy making up words and using exclamation points.) At every one of my sessions, I want to capture more than how you look, I want to capture who you are! Who you are today, right now, in this moment.

I did a session tonight that I am DYING to share... but I can't, yet. It's a secret. In the meantime.... I LOVE this photo.
Life is messy. Families are messy. Kids are messy (especially their often snot or food infested kisses). And sometimes it feels like everyone is clambering for a way to be heard or at the very least, seen. But in the midst of all that mess..... that's where the love is hiding. Look for it. You might be surprised at what you see.

I almost quit being a photographer. Two years ago was my last wedding season before I had twins and one of my clients was unhappy. It broke my heart. It crushed my soul. I was devestated. I mean, I love photography. I love to create and tell stories and it feeds my soul and someone was unhappy..... With me. (Well my work actually but I took it as me)
🙈
I didn't realize how much I carried it with me. I was terrified to shoot. I did one wedding last summer.... One... And I gave those images back to those clients soooo late. I tried to tell myself it was because I had twin infants... But I was scared to look at them. Scared to give them back. Scared to let someone else down. 🙊(PS. I didn't. They loved them)....
Until this year. I did a wedding...... And I did it my way. I stopped trying to be something for everyone and just decided to be me... And it was magic. It was healing and freeing and all that other foofy dust and unicorn farts. 🦄🦄
But that's the thing... Not everyone is going to like you. Not everyone is going to think your s**t is top notch. Not everyone is going to want to be your friend or hire you. AND THAT'S OKAY!! It's better than okay. It's life. What's that saying? Your vibe attracts your vibe.
So learn from me... Don't give up on your true self just because it doesn't suit someone. You can't be everything for everyone.. so you just do you. And the people who love you and that sort of s**t will flock to you and your life will be magic.
And I'll stand over here and cheer you on. Because even if it's not my taste, Authenticity definitely is. So go out there and rock you. (Unicorn farts not necessary but highly acceptable). 😘😍 . .

It was a beautiful day and these two newlyweds took me to a gorgeous park that I had never been to for their wedding photos. We had just taken a break where I told everyone to just take a few minutes to enjoy being married and the day as it was unfolding. There was a river behind us and off to the side there was a pile of deadfall that looked unbelievable to take photos in. So I was encouraging them that this was our next location. One of the groomsmen had climbed up on the pile to either take a p*e or show off his skillful balance beam rendition when he spied a massive bull snake. The bridal party in it's entirety was slightly less than enthused about climbing up on this pile where there was at least one snake, if not a pit of a thousand more. We chased the snake off and everyone stood around nervously for awhile, using every sense we possessed (especially the sense of imagination) to determine if the snake had gone. I knew that the images we would get from the pile we worth the risk of running into another snake, I just had to convince them of that. And because my amazing clients trust me to take their photographs, they often trust me in a lot of situations. So they pulled up their big girl panties and climbed up for some shots. And they were worth it, so so worth it. And there was no snake.

I believe in the power of children's laughter. The loud, uninhibited, shrieking laughter that often results in slightly p*ed pants.
I believe in the strength of family. The annoying brother we never asked for, and the newly acquired sister in law we never knew we were waiting for.
I believe in the passion of ordinary. Mountains of laundry can be just as exciting of an adventure for your family as the Rocky Mountains.
I believe in the beauty of colour. Sunsets are the earth's final daily work of art to remind us of how beautiful the world is until tomorrow.
I believe in sweetness of love. Hand holding, poem writing, BIG gesture love... But also knowing looks, quiet touches, not so noisy love.
And I believe in the magic of stories. Life stories. The stories of a new life, a fleeting childhood, a beautiful wedding, and another day lived full of love and laughter. Stories are how we connect. Stories help us remember how we lived. Photography helps me tell stories.

Sometimes best friends can feel like sisters and those are the best kind. I love being around people with connection and love just oozing out of their pores for one another. I love love. I am typically crying right along with the family when I shoot a wedding ceremony. Being there and capturing real life moments and amazing connections between people is my passion.
When I was younger, someone asked me what I would do if I could do anything in the world. My response was to drive around, meet people, and then share their stories. I kid you not. At that time I thought that meant a life of journalism or investigative reporting of some magnitude. But this.... This is it. This is essentially the same thing. I get to drive around, meet people and share their stories. And the most amazing part is that I get to share those stories with the people I meet, who will cherish them forever.
That's why encouraging and really waiting for those connections to take place before I make a photograph is so important to me. I don't want you to look back through your wedding album and see what your wedding day looked like. I want you to look back through that photo album and FEEL that day. I want your cheeks to hurt from smiling and your stomach to ache from laughing as you relive that day, or that time in your life, be it your wedding day with your best friends or family photos with your wild and imaginative toddlers.
