Let there be LIGHT! BEHOLD! We have windows and doors everyone!!! I originally got back up to the cottage job in April this year, to install all the windows and doors. (Bit of a debacle there, but I’ll address that in the next walk through video.) Hence why it looks like the pictures are at two different times of year…. because they are!🤦🏻‍♂️😂 With the help of , and the homeowner, who stepped up and brought some extra hands to make for lighter lifting. Which I am incredibly thankful for, especially considering some of these are absolute MONSTERS! 😂 Being that the “front” of the cottage is west facing, and it used to be a screened in porch, the homeowner was semi reluctant to close it in. So a solution was needed. They opted to make the existing exterior wall more or less remain the same in that, it will be a full wall, it won’t change location, but make it as much window as possible. This way, the view to the lake isn’t obstructed anywhere in the main living space. We repaired all the rot in the old porch (as seen in previous posts) and framed it in, then installed some of the biggest windows I have ever personally handled. (Not actually the biggest technically.) The driveway side of the cottage will be a full deck, so they kept the original door location and had the two man doors for entry to the cottage made to match. When you make an investment like this, you go the distance. With the view in the last slide, there’s no way you’d want to miss a single sunset or thunderstorm! 💯👌🏻🔥🔥🔥

Back to Cottage posting! After tearing out and replacing the rotten old subfloor and necessary structural members in the old screened in porch floor. We were ready to start framing in some walls on top of it! This room is going from a screened in porch to a fully closed in porch/sunroom. So we opened up the ceiling before framing our walls so the electrician could get in there and do his thing, and so it can be properly insulated for winter use. This porch was such a cool feature and the owner didn’t want to lose it entirely by closing it in, so they opted for partial walls with some BIG windows instead. We also kept the original door opening and picture window next to it, which will walk out onto a deck! Super pumped to get back to this one in the spring! If you have a project for your home, cottage or business, contact us today for an estimate! Our 2024 schedule is filling up fast, so don’t wait!

Swipe right for this two piece bathroom transformation! Sometimes a space just needs a bit of a “makeover” rather than a full gut and renovation to bring it back to life. This two piece bathroom is one of the most frequently used in this home, but without any windows the lack of natural light gave it a sort of “cave like” effect, always feeling dark and gloomy. Being that this home is semi detached and this room shared walls with the neighbour, garage and kitchen, adding a window was not an option. So instead we touched up a bad mud job, put on a couple coats of new paint, as well as a new vanity and mirror and voila! This space has been transformed, and brought into this decade with a few simple changes! If you have a project you are thinking about completing on your home, cottage or business contact us today and we can get the ball rolling! Our 2024 season is booking up fast, so don’t wait, give us a call, email or message today!

The first thing I decided to tackle on this big cottage job was this screened in porch! The client contacted us later in the year and with winter on the way, the main goal of the project for 2023 was to get as much of the demo and framing done as possible, then weather proof it for the winter. This porch is a super cool space, but because it was floor to ceiling screen, with no coverings, it let ALL the weather in! Between that, and the floor being covered in laminate (which trapped all the water.) There was some serious rot going on with the subfloor and even some of the structural members in the flooring system as you can see in the last picture. The white spot you can see in the third picture in front of the screen door was so soft, you could have literally fallen through the floor. (It’s framed on 2’ centres so you actually could have… 😂) So, we ripped up all the subfloor, then glued and screwed new 5/8” tongue and groove plywood sheathing. We added extra blocking and/or joists where necessary, as well as joist hangers to improve the structural integrity. With the sheathing and structural members fixed and now sound, the porch is ready to be framed in for some BIG windows! Stay tuned for more pics of this project! Contact us asap if you have a project you would like to have completed in the 2024 season!

Throwback to a quick little tear out, replace, prep job we did before the new year for .painting This client had bought a lovely century home located near the Stratford festival and wanted to do some much needed updates to bring it up to current standards. They hired Patrick and his team to re paint the kitchen cabinets and kitchen area but also wanted a new backsplash, so that’s where we came in! While we didn’t install the new backsplash tile, we did come remove the old one, and the damaged drywall behind it. Then we did a bit of clean up and prep work before installing new board and taping it so the tiler had a nice flat surface to install the new backsplash on. All said and done, we were in and out in a day and likely have some future projects coming up with this client as a result! As always, big shout out and thank you to .painting for the referral and work! Team work makes the dream work! Do not hesitate to reach out and talk to us about your upcoming improvement projects to your home, cottage, or business! Our 2024 schedule is already filling up, so contact us asap to reserve your spot before it’s too late!

So before I continue on with the cottage posts, I wanted to share a Reno we did back in the summer. We had an exceptionally wet July this year, which put a damper on outdoor work, but luckily we had this interior Reno to do! This cute little war time house, in the quiet Avon Ward of Stratford is great! The kitchen and bathroom on the other hand, needed some serious updates! This client wanted to bring it up to current standards, while keeping a classic look that spoke more to the original. Instead of going for something totally contemporary that didn’t really suit the era of the home. These are just the before pics but I cannot wait to share the results! We also did a bit of re-framing, drywall and trim work elsewhere on the main floor, to update the look and make the space more functional. I will show pictures of that later on, but as our first Kitchen and Bathroom project I could not be more happy with the results and can’t wait to share them with you all!

More shots from phase one of the big cottage reno! This is ground zero, the very first pictures I took of the project on day one. With this being the first big one for us, and the drastic change that this building is going through. I wanted to be thorough in documenting and displaying just how much work is going into this renovation. This has been one of my favourite projects to date in the twelve plus years that I’ve been a carpenter! It also helps when you have an awesome client that is super easy to work with, knows what they want, and appreciates your work! Can’t wait to get back up in the spring and finish the transformation! Stay tuned for more posts on this project, next up, framing!

It always gets so crazy towards the end of the year I forget to post! 😂 So here is a nice little 5’x 6’x 2’ porch we finished up just before the holidays! This beauty is built out of 100% cedar, including the substructure, thanks to ! The client had the pad poured on grade before we showed up and wanted to go with something a little more classy than plain old pressure treated. They weren’t entirely sure how they wanted the railings finished yet, so I framed the posts right through the substructure for strength and will be back in the spring to finish it off! Contact us ASAP to buddy ok your spring and summer projects before it’s too late!

We recently had an opportunity to recreate some original art/history for a client of .painting 🖌 I’ve admired the intricate wood work on this century home for years. The level of craftsmanship is remarkable, and nearly unparalleled today. It was an absolute pleasure being able to be a part of the restoration of this beautiful piece of Stratford heritage. More pictures to come!

We have been SWAMPED! So busy I’ve been forgetting to post! 😂 So here is a nice 14x18 deck we did back in July! These customers didn’t like the feel of the concrete pad (which had also started to recede into the ground from a poor base and improper prep work). So we removed the pad and replaced it with this beautiful 250sqft pressure treated deck! The dining and seating areas were specifically designed to fit the furniture the clients already had. We also increased the size of the deck to add a little more space so everything could fit and none of the seating area had to be located on the lawn. Open dining area to suck in those summer rays while you’re having your meal, and a fire table/lounge area with a pergola for those warm summer and cozy fall nights! A deck these clients are sure to enjoy for many years to come! Thinking about a project for your backyard next year? Contact us ASAP! It may be fall, but the schedule will fill up fast so don’t sleep on booking. We also don interior renos if you’re thinking about a winter project! Call, email or message us today for an estimate!

Little soffit, facia and trough job we did back in June. This house had trough previously but had only plywood on the soffits and no aluminum facia, just wood. Well, the old trough wasn’t moving much water anymore and the bees literally ate through the facia to make nests. We also had to do some minor facia repair due to rot. I know what you’re thinking... why did buddy put a drop and a down pipe right in front of a gate? Well, next year my boy is going to be pouring some walkways and a pad for this customer and the gate location is actually going to change at that time, so it won’t interfere! All and all, this houses exterior is looking fresh and is ready to withstand all the weather coming it’s way! Contact us today for a free estimate!
