A quick reminder for homeowners when hiring someone to do electrical work:

Always verify that the company you’re hiring is a Licensed Electrical Contractor.

Being an experienced electrician, a certified electrician, or even a Master Electrician does not, on its own, authorize someone to offer electrical work for hire. A Licensed Electrical Contractor will have an ECRA/ESA licence number, which you can verify directly through the Electrical Safety Authority.

A Licensed Electrical Contractor is the only contractor able to do the correct filings required by ESA for permits, and inspections. They are also the only electrical contractors eligible for contractors insurance.

Whether you choose Saxon Electric or another electrical contractor, take a few minutes to verify who you’re hiring before work begins. Electrical work isn’t an area where it’s worth taking chances.

Please be advised in the coming weeks, Hydro One will begin replacing electricity meters in the Township of Strong.

Electricity meters play an important role in ensuring a consistent, dependable energy supply. As our needs evolve and the demand for electricity grows, Hydro One is making upgrades to electricity meters in order to prepare for growing electricity needs within the community. In the future, these new meters are expected to provide more precise detection of outages to enable faster and more efficient power restoration.

To support this upgrade, the contractor Honeywell, will work alongside us to ensure a seamless transition. There will be no additional cost to residents for the new meters or their installation. Customers will also receive direct notification from Hydro One before their meter is replaced.

Even when we aren’t replacing older equipment, we like leaving things a little better, and easier to use than we found them. A clear panel schedule makes future service, renovations, and even simple troubleshooting far easier.

Earlier today, we saw a post from a community member looking to borrow a generator because a loved one relies on electricity for essential medical equipment.

Luckily it seems like they were able to find one, but storms remind us that being part of a small community means looking out for one another.

If you or someone you know has a medical need during an extended power outage (oxygen equipment, essential medical devices, etc.) and is without a safe backup power source, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

While our equipment is limited, if we have a generator available we'd much rather see it keeping someone safe than sitting in our garage.
