Here's a look inside one of our outdoor condensing units, with the service door open.

A condensing unit is the outdoor half of a walk-in cooler or freezer system — it's what sits on the roof or on a pad outside the building, working continuously to move heat out of the cold storage space. The unit in the photo is built for that job.

What's in the cabinet:
▸ Scroll compressor (Invotech) — mounted on vibration isolators to reduce noise transfer and protect refrigerant connections from mechanical stress.
▸ Copper refrigerant lines — bent, brazed, and pressure-tested in our manufacturing facility before the unit ships. Field connections are minimal.
▸ Color-coded electrical terminal block — mounted on the inside of the service door for clean, fast field wiring.
▸ Acoustic foam lining on the service door panel to reduce the sound profile during operation.
▸ Slim cabinet design with dual axial fans — useful for outdoor installations where building setbacks or property line clearances are tight.

The Invotech YF Series rounds out the refrigeration lineup we've been covering — and it's the most specialized of the three. Here's what sets it apart.

What "extra-low temperature" actually means: The YF is designed for an ev***rator envelope of -31.7°C to +40.6°C. That's the range where compression ratios get steep and most general-purpose scrolls start running hot, losing efficiency, and shortening their service life. The YF is built specifically for those conditions.

Typical applications: Blast freezers, ice cream display cabinets, frozen food warehouses, low-temperature ice machines, refrigerated transport, and any commercial refrigeration system holding product below -18°C.

The technical detail worth knowing — dynamic discharge valve: Standard scroll compressors can reverse-rotate briefly on shutdown, which puts wear on the scrolls and oil system over thousands of cycles. The YF includes a dynamic discharge valve that closes the discharge port on shutdown, preventing reverse rotation. It also improves efficiency during operation by reducing back-leakage at high compression ratios.

The injection options: The YF is available with v***r injection (V models) or liquid injection (Q models). Both pair the compressor with a source of liquid refrigerant via an internal injection port. V***r injection extends the operating envelope into more extreme conditions. Liquid injection manages discharge temperatures and keeps them below the 125°C maximum even in demanding low-temp duty.

Capacity range: 2 HP up to 15 HP — same series number from a small blast cell up to a multi-compressor low-temp rack.

The Invotech YM Series is the medium-temperature counterpart to the YS Series we featured last week. Same manufacturer, same certifications, different operating envelope.

What "medium temperature" means in practice: The YM is designed to maintain product temperatures between roughly -6.7°C and +48.9°C, with the ability to run down to -15°C at the ev***rator. That covers most of the commercial refrigeration work outside of true freezing — supermarket display cases, walk-in coolers, ice machines, bulk milk tanks, beverage coolers, and standard cold rooms.

The capacity range: 2 HP up to 15 HP across the YM lineup. That's the same series number from a small back-of-house cooler all the way up to a multi-compressor rack system — which simplifies sourcing and parts familiarity for contractors who standardize on one brand.

The mechanical detail worth knowing: Invotech scrolls use a radial and axial compliance design. In plain terms, the scrolls float on both axes, which means the compressor can tolerate brief flood-back of liquid refrigerant without scroll damage.
