🌿 Summer is officially in full swing, and we've been working hard all over Southern Ontario, tending to trees and making properties shine!

Make sure to give your trees some TLC to fully make the most of their beauty while you're enjoying your property this summer.

Here are a few tips to keep them healthy and vibrant during warm weather:

☀️ Regular watering: Ensure your trees receive enough water, especially during dry spells. Deep watering at the base of the tree will nourish the roots and help them thrive.

☀️ Mulching: Apply a layer of organic mulch around the base of your trees to conserve moisture, control weeds, and protect them from extreme temperature fluctuations.

☀️ Pruning: Summer is an excellent time to have your trees professionally pruned. Trimming away dead or damaged branches promotes healthy growth and enhances the overall appearance of your trees.

☀️ Pest and disease management: Keep an eye out for any signs of pests or diseases. Early detection is crucial for effective treatment. Our team is here to help you identify and address any issues.

Call us for a consultation and let's make your trees shine! 🌟

European Gypsy Moths are a common nuisance for Ontario trees in the summer - here's what. to look out for and what to do if you suspect an infestation

🔎 Look out for their hairy caterpillars with a distinctive pattern of blue and red dots along their backs.
These voracious feeders can cause severe defoliation, leaving your trees exposed to elements and other pests.

⏰ European Gypsy Moths typically emerge during late spring or early summer.
Keep an eye out for the adult moths fluttering around your trees.
The caterpillars become more noticeable as they feed and grow, so regular inspections are crucial!

Monitor your trees regularly for signs of infestation: egg masses, caterpillars, or defoliation.

Remove and destroy egg masses found on tree trunks, branches, or other surfaces to reduce the population.

Encourage natural predators by attracting birds and beneficial insects to your garden.

Consider banding trees with burlap, sticky tape, or applying barrier sprays to prevent caterpillars from crawling up trunks.

If the infestation is severe, consult with Balancer Tree Care - we can assess the situation and recommend effective treatments.

Do you have any property changes in mind for this summer season?

Read this post to learn how to maintain the integrity of your trees during construction!

🌱 Closely-placed construction equipment and structures can cause physical injuries to trees that are both permanent and, in some cases, fatal. The trunk, crown, and roots of a tree are particularly vulnerable.

Inappropriate pruning techniques can also result in tree injury, exacerbating the damage.

🌱 Root cutting is another significant concern - excavation near trees can sever crucial anchor roots, destabilizing them and posing a risk of falling over.

🌱 Soil compaction can also compromise the health of your trees. When heavy vehicles and equipment move across the root zones, the soil becomes compacted, reducing the essential pore spaces necessary for root growth, air, and water circulation.

Compaction from piling materials or debris on top of the root system can suffocate the roots, leading to further decline.

Small changes in the existing grade (even just a few centimetres of added soil!) can smother tree roots, restricting their access to oxygen and water.

🌱 If you're planning any construction projects near trees, consult with Balancer Tree Care first. We can guide you on how to protect our green companions and minimize potential harm.

Let's build with nature in mind! 🌿🏡
