Do you have any property changes in mind for this summer season?
Read this post to learn how to maintain the integrity of your trees during construction!
🌱 Closely-placed construction equipment and structures can cause physical injuries to trees that are both permanent and, in some cases, fatal. The trunk, crown, and roots of a tree are particularly vulnerable.
Inappropriate pruning techniques can also result in tree injury, exacerbating the damage.
🌱 Root cutting is another significant concern - excavation near trees can sever crucial anchor roots, destabilizing them and posing a risk of falling over.
🌱 Soil compaction can also compromise the health of your trees. When heavy vehicles and equipment move across the root zones, the soil becomes compacted, reducing the essential pore spaces necessary for root growth, air, and water circulation.
Compaction from piling materials or debris on top of the root system can suffocate the roots, leading to further decline.
Small changes in the existing grade (even just a few centimetres of added soil!) can smother tree roots, restricting their access to oxygen and water.
