For more than 15 years, the Town of Oakville has taken a proactive approach to managing emerald ash borer and preserving its urban forest. Today, many of the high-value ash trees included in the original treatment program are still standing and continue to provide valuable environmental, economic, and community benefits.

This photo was taken in July 2026, and these ash trees are thriving.

In Lallemand's latest ESG report, we highlight how preserving mature trees is a valuable long-term investment for municipalities and the communities they serve. 🌳

We're starting to see spongy moth activity picking up again in southern Ontario. 👀🌳

🐛 Spongy moth (Lymantria dispar dispar) is a non-native pest that defoliates a wide range of tree species. This pest runs in cycles - after a few quiet years, populations can build quickly, and we may be heading into that upswing now. If trends continue, we could see more noticeable impacts over the next couple of years.

While healthy trees can usually recover from a single year of defoliation, repeated pressure can lead to decline or even tree mortality. And of course, high populations bring a noticeable mess 💩.
