By request, here is a little update on our barn -> shop renovation

A little experiment with leather, wood, and copper. I needed some sheaths for my jobsite chisel set, but I didn't want them all bundled together in a tool roll, or attached to a tool box. I wanted to be able to grab one and stick it my tool belt or pocket when I'm doing installation work. The dado for the blade is just a little shallow and the blade tapers slightly so as the blade progresses into the sheath it gets tighter. The leather has just enough give to hold it snuggly without being hard to remove. Im not well versed in leather work, so nailing it to a board fit my skills just right 😉

This is a custom design inspired by the stained glass artist Auguste Labouret and his windows in the Hotel Lutetia, Paris. The desire to reuse a broken piece of Florentine privacy glass in the client's home was the jumping off point for this project. From there we designed something that brings a little piece of Labouret to Saint John.
