Lors de la causerie en forêt avec Gabriel Grenier, le forestier, j’ai été frappé par la forme de ce vieux merisier.

J’ai profité de cette semaine de vacances pour explorer une nouvelle dimension de ma quête forestière : apprendre à dessiner les arbres pour mieux les contempler 🌳.

Pour ce faire, je ne suis allé que de mémoire afin de le faire revivre en mon esprit.

Je conseille ce cahier pour apprendre à dessiner les arbres : Drawing Trees with William F. Powell - Learn to draw step by step.

C’était mon tout premier essai et je ne suis pas trop gêné de le publier ✍🏼.

Et vous, quel nouveau chemin aimeriez-vous explorer dans votre quête forestière?

During a walk in the forest with Gabriel Grenier, le forestier, I was struck by the shape of this old yellow birch tree.

I took advantage of this week off to take a first step in a new direction in my forest quest: learning to draw trees to better appreciate them 🌳.
To do this, I relied solely on memory to bring it back to life in my mind.

I recommend this workbook for learning to draw trees: Drawing Trees with William F. Powell - Learn to draw step by step.

This was my very first attempt, and I’m not too ashamed to share it ✍🏼.

Travail de fond avec Jean-François de Faut Que Ca Coupe pour aiguiser une serpe avec un angle très fermé.
Le résultat est super, je vais l’essayer très bientôt sur le terrain!

J’ai eu l’occasion de participer à une promenade-causerie sur les forêts anciennes avec Gabriel Grenier le forestier au Mont-Wright, et j’en ai profité pour lui demander ce que lui évoquait l’expression : Quête Forestière 🌳.

🌳-> 🪵 1/2 : Débitage d’un tronc au sol

Je débite ce bouleau à papier en entaillant seulement un côté sur le long, puis je fends entre chaque entaille.

Lorsque le billot est fendu sur une moitié tout le long, je continue en fendant à l’horizontale en plein centre avant d’entailler les dernières sections.

Hache utilisée : Cadore 310N3 de , poids de la tête 1300g, soit 2 7/8lbs, sur un manche en caryer conventionnel de 28".

1/2: Bucking a log on the ground
Here I’m bucking this paper birch by notching one side only along its length, then splitting between each notch.

Once the log is split halfway along its full length, I continue by splitting horizontally right through the center before notching the last sections.

Axe used: Cadore 310N3 by , head weight 1300g (2 7/8 lbs), on a 28" wedged hickory handle.
