Don’t Ignore These Signs Before Heating Season Starts 🍂

Your heating system may not be running much yet, but now is a good time to pay attention to how it performs when you do turn it on.

Watch for signs like unusual noises, uneven temperatures from room to room, trouble reaching the temperature set on your thermostat, or unusual odours that don’t go away.

Catching something unusual early can give you time to have it checked before colder weather arrives and your heating system is working every day.

Thinking About an EV? Your Garage May Need an Upgrade Too.

As electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids become more accessible, more drivers are considering the switch, especially with the potential for lower driving and maintenance costs.

If an EV or plug-in hybrid is in your future, convenient home charging is worth planning for too.

A professionally installed Level 2 EV charger can provide faster charging than a standard household outlet, making it easier to plug in at home and get ready for the road.

Thinking about making the switch? Make sure your home is ready too.

📞 Call (604) 335-2019 or visit https://www.mrheating.com/ to ask about EV charger installation.

Your AC Worked All Summer. When Did You Last Check the Filter?

After months of keeping your home cool, your HVAC filter may have collected more dust and debris than you realize.

A dirty filter can restrict airflow, make your system work harder, and affect your home comfort.

Take a minute to check your filter. If it looks dirty or clogged, it may be time for a replacement.

It’s a simple end-of-summer check that can help keep your system running smoothly.

Warm Days, Cooler Nights? Make Your Thermostat Work Smarter.

Late summer temperatures can change throughout the day, but constantly adjusting your thermostat isn’t always the answer.

Keep temperature changes small and use a schedule if you have a programmable or smart thermostat. Adjusting the temperature when you’re away or sleeping can help reduce unnecessary energy use, while consistent settings can help your system maintain comfort without running more than needed.

And remember, turning your thermostat way down won’t cool your home any faster.

A few smart thermostat habits can mean better comfort, less unnecessary runtime, and potential energy savings.

Barely touched your thermostat this summer? Your AC still put in the hours.

On every damp, grey day when your AC ran, it was also removing moisture from the air, and pulling moisture out of the air is some of the hardest work it does.

Here’s the catch: a wet summer can lead to algae buildup and clogs in the condensate drain, the line that carries that moisture away.

A musty smell or water pooling near your indoor unit can be a sign it’s time to call.

Give your system a quick look this weekend: check the filter and clear any rain-washed leaves or debris away from the outdoor unit. Then, book a maintenance visit before fall.

📞 Call (604) 243-2833 or visit https://www.mrheating.com/ to book your maintenance visit. You can also drop us a comment and we’ll be happy to help.

If your basement recently flooded, the water draining out doesn't mean the problem did.

You've probably already taken care of the hard part: You pumped it out, hauled out the ruined furniture / appliances, ran the dehumidifier, aired it out. But the water is only the part you can see. The trouble that shows up weeks later is the part that catches most homeowners off guard.

Here's what to watch for over the next 30 days:

💧 Humidity that lingers. A basement can look dry and still hold a lot of moisture in the air. Rising indoor humidity is often the first sign something's still damp behind the scenes.

🦠 Mould settling in. Mould doesn't need standing water to grow, it needs dampness and time, and a recently flooded basement gives a bit of both.

🌬️ Contaminated air that travels. Your furnace and ductwork move air through your whole home. If moisture or mould gets into that system, it doesn't stay in the basement. It ends up in the air your family breathes upstairs.

🔧 Equipment that took on water. If your furnace, water heater, or any of their gas and electrical parts sat in floodwater for any amount of time, they should be checked before you run them again, even if they seem fine right now.

If your basement recently flooded, give us a call. We'll look over your furnace, your plumbing, and your indoor air to let you know what's safe to turn back on and what needs your attention.
