Timken OK Load (Lubricant Testing)
What it measures: It's a standardized test for lubricants, indicating their extreme pressure (EP) performance by measuring the maximum load a lubricant can prevent from scuffing or seizing a steel block.
How it works: A steel block is pressed against a rotating bearing ring under increasing loads, with the lubricant flooding the contact area. The test stops when a score mark appears on the block, and the last load before scoring is the OK Load.
Units: The OK Load is measured in pounds-force (lbs) or kilograms-force (kgf).
Purpose: This test is used to assess the effectiveness of extreme pressure additives in lubricants.
