After nearly a year of searching, we came across this property before it even hit the market. The moment I walked through it, I knew it had potential. The moment I walked through it, I knew it had potential. What made it special wasn’t how it looked — it was what it could become. A detached home on one of the largest corner lots in the neighbourhood. A quiet Ottawa community. Solid construction. Room to grow. Room to improve. Room to create something truly our own.
The property was sold as is, which meant we inherited everything the previous owner left behind. On top of that, the house had been sitting vacant for the last six years. But when most people saw problems, I saw opportunity — an opportunity to create a long-term family home with strong potential to increase in value over time.
Today the home has 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a finished basement, a large kitchen and dining area, a living room and laundry space. And almost every area needs attention. The bathroom will be completely redesigned and expanded. The kitchen will be rebuilt from the ground up. We’ll be adding a second bathroom in the basement. The roof, windows, insulation, finishes, and many other systems will eventually be upgraded as well.
This is not a one-year project — it’s a multi-year transformation. Through this page, I’ll be sharing the entire process: the good decisions, the mistakes, the costs, the lessons, and the real work that goes into transforming a house from demo to dream home. If you’re curious about any part of the journey, leave a comment below. Ask away — I’ll be sharing it all, one project at a time. 👇
