Flush roof-mounted system: 1,220 kWh per kW per year

Ground-mounted rack system: 1,235 kWh per kW per year

2-axis tracking system: 1,530 kWh per kW per year

For example, a 10 kW flush roof-mounted system operating under a $0.802/kWh contract would generate approximately:
10 x 1,220 x 0.802 = $9,784 per year.

Taking care of your off-grid lead-acid batteries can save you money and extend their life. Here are a few simple tips:

Check Specific Gravity (SG): Use a hydrometer to monitor battery health and determine when equalization is needed.

Keep Them Fully Charged: Batteries should regularly hit 100% charge to prevent damage. Partial charging leads to sulfation, which ruins the plates.

Equalize as Needed: If cells show uneven SG readings or don’t reach full charge, equalize for 2.5 hours.

Adjust for Temperature: Cold batteries need higher charge voltages. Use a temperature sensor and auto-compensating charge controller.

Size Your Solar Panels Properly: Make sure your system can fully recharge the batteries daily, especially in winter.

If you leave them, make sure they’re fully charged to 100% and disconnect everything. Fully charged batteries can handle the cold and sit safely for months.

If your solar panels stay snow-free, you can leave the charge controller connected to keep the batteries charged. Another option is to use a small vertical solar panel (like 100W) with its own charge controller to maintain them through winter.

The most important thing is to keep your batteries as close to 100% charged as possible to avoid damage or freezing!
