Today is a good day! Body feels ok. Brain, meh. 😬

Roasted three trays of spiced cherry tomatoes for future pasta and pizzas. I made a promise to myself to not just eat them like candy. Anyone that knows me knows I’m lying to myself. 😆

Made two kinds of Cowboy/Cowgirl Candy. My absolute favourite thing in my pantry.

One regular and one with sweet cherries, pineapple and half brown sugar. Now to wait a month. IT IS SO HARD TO WAIT PEOPLE.

I always make a massive batch of the liquid and use the leftover as the base for my spicy BBQ sauce. Two birds, one stone.

Took more tomatoes off to ripen in the house and removed all remaining leaves. A ton more still on the plants. It’s been a surprisingly good year for tomatoes considering the wonky weather. Credit goes to the polytunnel haha

I strive to get as much as I can from my harvests and trimming the bits off the jalapeno stems to freeze and use in eggs, stir fries etc gave me another 4 cups of produce that would normally be tossed in the compost.

It’s been a rainy day but my dahlias survived yet another crazy windstorm. You go ladies!

I hope your day is sunny whether in weather or thoughts. Head up, eyes up, heart open. 💚

🎵 Here I go again on my ownnnn 🎶

It’s been a very hard week guys and gals. Although I am extremely happy my daughter and her guy flew from Alberta to visit I ended up down for the count from what I think was a fibro flare. Ugh. Just crawled out of a days long “please ki££ me now” mentality where absolutely nothing got done. Painkillers do sweet f all so it was a grit your teeth and wait it out kinda deal.

BUT as the saying goes what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Haha. So after harvesting as much as I could handle you’ll find me in the kitchen for the next few days while I hammer down again. 🔨 👩‍🍳

Tomatoes and peppers are still pumping out fruit and at this point with Kevin gone to work for two weeks again I’ll likely start to core the tomatoes and freeze for future use. The peppers will be chopped and frozen.

Is anyone else’s squash growing like crazy still? Mine are off the hook right now. It’s wild.

As I was harvesting yet another pot of yellow beans to pickle I got in a “mood” and starting yanking out the still producing plants. Cause screw that, I’m over picking yellow beans. I’ve already preserved 57 jars of Kickin’ Beans for my customers and have 4 litres of dehydrated ones for future soups and stews. That will have to do.

I basically stared at the insane numbers of green beans, purple Blauhilde beans and yellow Neckergolds still on the vines and pretended I did not see them. I might just let them seed up and store them that way.

Pulled another bin of onions for chopping and freezing. The last pull will be used for my various charcuterie preserves. They can wait.

Potatoes, Swiss Chard, carrots and the rest of the cabbage and kale can also wait longer. To be honest I might just feed the cabbage and kale to the turkeys 🦃 👀

I still haven’t pickled the rest of the beets but it’s very high on a very long list. They’re holding up fantastic in the cool garage as are the insane amount of apples stored in there. So I have some grace there.

The dahlias and flowers are still going strong. Although the crazy wind has definitely messed some up. Good thing I plant a ridiculous amount lol. Drying more calendula for my partner in crime at Hurkett Hill Farm for the most amazing skin salve I’ve used in my almost 60 years on this planet. If you have not tried it I highly recommend. It’s a game changer for dirt digging hands on gardeners.

I hope your gardens gave you what you needed this year and I really hope you stopped to smell the flowers every day because to me that is the most important part of it all. ❤️💚

Poor Fonzie.

🎣 Dad is taking someone fishing on Lake Superior and he can’t go. That’s one annoyed pup haha. Hopefully we will be canning fish tomorrow!

🔪 I’ve actually decided there will be no preserving today as I put in a full day yesterday and cut both my hands with my newly sharpened knives. THEN got vinegar in the cuts multiple times. So yeah. No.

🍎 BUT! Someone showed me an absolutely laden crabapple tree to pick so it’ll be a foraging day instead.

☕️ AFTER an espresso, because caffeine is life right now.
