An air exchanger can turn on, move air and seem like it’s working perfectly fine… without actually being properly balanced.

On this system, the manufacturer’s data showed roughly 200 CFM of supply air compared to 170 CFM of exhaust air when we started.

So we measured, made our adjustments, then verified everything again until those two airflows were much closer together.

Because you can’t confirm proper balance by listening to the unit or putting your hand in front of a grille.

You measure it. 👌

We will be diving deeper into why this is important, in future posts.

When we say “your house is a system,” we mean that your HVAC equipment is only one piece of what determines how comfortable your home actually feels.

Your furnace or heat pump is working inside a house that has its own airflow, humidity, ventilation, insulation and pressure differences. All of those things are connected.

So if one part isn’t working the way it should, you can feel the effects somewhere completely different.

A room that’s always cold might not mean you need a bigger furnace. High humidity might not mean there’s something wrong with your AC. Sometimes the equipment is doing exactly what it’s supposed to do, but something else in the house is affecting the result.

That’s why we don’t want to look at the equipment in isolation. We want to understand what the whole house is doing first.

We’re going to get much deeper into this in our upcoming Building Science series and show you how all these pieces work together.

Your house is a system. Diagnose the system, not just the equipment.

-

When you describe our job without mentioning HVAC… it suddenly sounds a whole lot more suspicious. 😂

Vans, private residences, gas, money… we promise, it’s all legal. 😅

At the end of the day, we’re just doing what we do best: keeping homes comfortable, systems running properly, and making sure everything works the way it should.

Six months ago, we started the Guild with a simple idea: bring together local contractors who want to support each other and show up for their community.

Since then, we’ve hosted drives together, shared our experiences, and gotten to know each other along the way. There’s something reassuring about talking with other business owners who understand your day-to-day and are willing to help you figure things out.

We each have our own business, but we’re part of the same community. And we believe there’s room for all of us to do well when we’re willing to lend each other a hand. 🤝

Sometimes you just have to remember that you can take the work seriously without taking yourself too seriously. 😅

At ACG, we work hard, keep things moving, and make sure the job gets done right. But between calls, installs, and problems to solve, we always find a way to have a little fun too.

That’s what makes a good team. Everyone does their part, everyone has each other’s back, and we keep the energy light even on the busiest days.

Because at the end of the day… we’re getting paid whether we’re stressin’ or vibin’. 😂

Just checking in before the cold really settles in. 👀

It’s usually the little things we put off that end up becoming a problem once we actually need the heat.

Testing the system ahead of time, checking the filter, keeping return vents clear, and paying attention to any unusual sounds or smells… nothing complicated, but it can make a big difference.

Better to catch something now than on the first really cold night. ❄️

“Growth isn’t just what you learn. It’s what you pass on.”

That really sums up one of our biggest takeaways from this year’s National Comfort Institute High-Performance Summit.

Every time we attend an event like this, we come back with new ideas, better processes and a deeper understanding of how we can keep improving the work we do at ACG.

But the value goes beyond the technical side.

Over the years, we’ve had people share their experience with us, answer our questions, introduce us to the right people and help shorten our learning curve.

Now, we’re finding ourselves in a position where we can do the same for others.

Whether it’s connecting contractors, helping younger technicians find mentors or simply sharing something we’ve learned along the way, we want to keep those doors open.

Because the more we grow, the more we realize that progress isn’t only about what we can bring back to our own company.

It’s also about what we can pass on to the people around us.

Reminder: turn your heat on before the cold settles in to make sure everything’s running smoothly. 🍂

Don’t wait until the house is cold and everyone’s calling at once for an emergency appointment!

Your AC shouldn’t need an “annual refrigerant top-up.” 👀

If refrigerant is low, there’s a reason for it.

That’s why we don’t just add refrigerant and call it a day. We look at the system, take proper measurements, verify the charge and make sure we actually understand what’s happening.

The right tools and the right process matter.

Because when it comes to your HVAC system, we’d rather diagnose the problem than put a Band-Aid on it.

We came back from the Testo Influencer Summit with a few ideas… and some updates to our equipment! 👀

In Part 2, we’re walking you through our latest vacuum setup.

Once the target vacuum level is reached, the pump stops and the system automatically checks whether that vacuum holds. We can follow everything through the app without having to manage each step manually.

It’s a part of the job you don’t often see, but one we take seriously at ACG. And we’re always refining how we work. 🔧
