Plant shopping days are my favourite 🌿

Stopped by Valleyview Gardens to pick out some beautiful plants for a plant display we’re installing tomorrow in Mississauga. There’s nothing better than walking through rows of greenery and choosing the perfect plants for a new space.

I can’t wait to see everything come together! 🌱

If you have questions about plants, plant displays, or bringing more greenery into your space, feel free to reach out. I’m always happy to chat plants!

Why We Love Reindeer Moss in Interior Plantscaping 🌿✨

We’re currently planning our largest residential interior plantscaping project ever — and the client specifically asked for reindeer moss! 🙌

Reindeer moss is one of our favourite finishing touches because it creates a clean, modern look, hides the soilless mix (and all that perlite + vermiculite), and helps protect our Lechuza planters by discouraging watering from the top. Plus, with so many colours available, it lets us perfectly match the interior dĂŠcor.

We’re really looking forward to this installation and can’t wait to share progress photos as the project unfolds!

What do you think of reindeer moss in interior plant design? 🌱

🌵 Cereus forbesii ‘Spiralis’ — the cactus that literally twists your brain (in the best way).

I spotted this beauty in the Humber College greenhouse last week while teaching my Level 1 Horticulture Technician Apprentices… and now I can’t get it out of my head.

I’m heading to our plant supplier this week and crossing my fingers they have one waiting for me. 🤞 This sculptural cactus would be an amazing addition to any indoor space—minimal care, maximum style, and 100% conversation‑starter.

If you’ve grown one, or have questions about this whirling wonder, reach out in the comments. Always love hearing your plant stories!

Mealybugs… the fuzzy little troublemakers no plant parent wants to find. 😅 We recently spotted a few on our client's plants, but thankfully Safer’s Insecticidal Soap handled the problem quickly and safely.

This awesome product uses potassium salts of fatty acids to break down a mealybug’s protective outer coating, causing it to dehydrate and die on contact. It’s effective, plant‑safe, and perfect for tackling soft‑bodied pests fast.

Got questions about mealybugs or how to use Safer’s Soap? Drop them in the comments—I’m always happy to help! 🌿

🌿 Spotlight on Two Stunning Aralias: Polyscias ‘Fabian’ & Polyscias ‘Ming Gold’ 🌿

As I research plants for an upcoming interior installation, these two beauties keep rising to the top — not just for their looks, but for their heritage and reliability indoors.

✨ Polyscias scutellaria ‘Fabian’
Native to the tropical regions of the Pacific Islands, ‘Fabian’ brings a dramatic architectural presence with its deep purple‑backed leaves and sculptural branching. In its natural habitat it grows as an understory shrub, which is why it adapts so well to moderate indoor light. It adds instant sophistication to offices, lobbies, and modern residential spaces.

✨ Polyscias fruticosa ‘Ming Gold’
Often called the Ming Aralia, this species hails from Southeast Asia. ‘Ming Gold’ is beloved for its finely divided, lace‑like foliage — a golden‑green cloud of texture that softens any interior. Its upright, woody stems create a graceful vertical accent ideal for corners, reception areas, or grouped plant displays.

🌱 Why Polyscias Make Excellent Interior Plants
Both varieties thrive in the consistent temperatures and filtered light typical of indoor environments. Their slow, steady growth means they maintain their form with minimal pruning, and their upright habit makes them perfect for tight spaces. Best of all, they bring a refined, almost bonsai-like presence that elevates any room.

If you're thinking about refreshing your interior with beautiful, low‑maintenance statement plants, we’d love to help.

🌿 Aristaloe aristata – A Reliable Interior Landscaping All‑Star 🌿

As I prep for my Horticulture Technician Apprentice class at Humber College, I’m reminded how perfectly Aristaloe aristata fits into modern interior landscapes.

Native to South Africa, this compact succulent thrives in arid mountain regions—so it brings that natural toughness indoors. With its dark green, toothy, aloe‑like leaves and neat rosette form, it offers structure, texture, and year‑round appeal with very little fuss.

Why it shines indoors:

Handles low humidity extremely well

Compact size works in desktops, condos, offices, and mixed planters

Tolerates bright indirect light and even some lower‑light conditions

Requires minimal watering, making it perfect for busy spaces or clients who forget

Care basics:
💧 Water sparingly—let the soil dry between waterings
☀️ Prefers bright light but adapts to filtered or indirect sun
🌱 Use a fast-draining succulent mix – we use ProMix HP (High Porosity)
🐞 Generally pest‑free, though mealybugs can occasionally show up—easy to manage

A tough, attractive, low‑maintenance choice for interior plant programs.

If you’ve grown Aristaloe aristata, I’d love to hear about your experience! Drop your questions or comments below—and I’m always happy to help incorporate great plants like this into your future interior designs. 🌱✨

The Desert Queen That Can Handle Anything

We’re designing a new interior entrance for a client—an older factory building with big personality and even bigger temperature swings. With winter dipping to around +/- 5°C and summer soaring, plus a full floor‑to‑ceiling glass façade, we needed a plant that could handle extremes with style.

Enter the Agave victoriae‑reginae — the Desert Queen of Mexico.
A true survivor, this sculptural plant thrives in intense heat, bright light, and surprisingly cold nights. Its compact, geometric form makes it the perfect focal point for this industrial entrance.

🌿 Why we chose Agave victoriae‑reginae:

Thrives in dramatic temperature swings

Loves bright, direct light—ideal for a glass-heavy entrance

Slow-growing, architectural shape = lasting visual impact

Naturally drought-tolerant and low maintenance

🌱 Care Tips:

Light: Full sun / bright direct light

Water: Allow soil to dry completely between waterings

Temperature: Surprisingly tolerant of cold + extreme heat

Soil: Fast-draining, gritty mix

Airflow: Good ventilation keeps it problem-free

Dracaena trifasciata (you might know it as Snake Plant) is one of the most iconic interior plants—and for good reason.

🌍 Heritage
Native to West Africa, Dracaena trifasciata evolved in dry, challenging environments. That resilience is exactly why it performs so well indoors, especially in modern offices.

🌿 Why it’s such a great interior plant
This plant thrives where others struggle. Low light, dry air, inconsistent watering—it handles it all while still looking clean, architectural, and professional.

🎨 Incredibly diverse
From tall, sculptural varieties to compact forms with variegated edges, Dracaena trifasciata fits everything from minimalist offices to bold, design-forward interiors.

💧 Easy care
• Low to medium light
• Water sparingly
• Tolerates dry indoor air
• Long-lasting with minimal maintenance

It’s one of our go-to plants for commercial spaces across Ontario because it delivers style without stress.
