Bathroom we recently completed as a part of a larger home reno. Tricky install in a 70s era townhome. Shared block wall on the right, bedroom wall on the left, both were far too out of plumb as existed to work with a vertical stack tile layout, and we had no access from below to plumbing. So the tub drain connection was done from above and shower walls were furred out to plumb which left us an unsightly jog in the wall, to large for tile edge and so small a drywall return would look silly, so we built these White Oak “jambs” finished on all sides installed in place with stainless screws and we built a custom White Oak vanity to match.

24x24 terrazzo style porcelain on the floor, acrylic alcove tub, 3x6 subway vertical stack. 3-way Riobel shower system. New bath fan. Simply White on walls, ceiling, door and trim.

A truly custom bathroom vanity doesn’t need to be eccentric. It needs to melt perfectly into the space. Built to suit the particular bathroom it serves. No gaps, no clunky, oversized fillers. White Oak framed cabinet with Shaker doors. U-shaped drawer to clear around the sink and provide a little extra usable storage.

Simple and refined.

Fireplace mantle we built and installed for this screened in covered porch.

The design was like nothing I’ve ever seen before, but it’s quite elegant in place.

Thanks to all our wonderful clients!

This little pergola for and is 😻 and will look even better once the planting/sodding is all finished and everything is painted. Such a pleasure to perform work for people who obsess about the details. The end result is always worth the effort.

Thanks to our clients for the opportunities and the trust!

So one of our framing jobs we had a low slope roof, a little under a 2/12 slope, the rafters are 16” TJIs.

Each wall supporting them has a W8-28 beneath the top plates without little extra space beyond what’s necessary for the doors and windows.

Although maybe it’s fine, there were no details called out for attaching the rafters to the wall, what I opted to do was drop the stud height to account for 1 additional top plate and make a quick jig to router out the slope of the rafters on layout so when it comes time to install they will fall into their sloped dados and have a full 5 1/2” of bearing.

Could I have ripped the top plate on the bevel? Yes. But in my opinion, not safely, and not easily since I would be cutting from on the edge and still wouldn’t have nearly the blade depth.

Planer sled? Yes.

Shims/wedges under every rafter? Yes.

Ask the designer/engineer for a detail to cut a seat cut? Possibly?

At the end of the day this seemed to be the easiest, fastest and cleanest way to get this done, and it will take a little over and hour all things considered.

And I think it’s kinda cool.

Take a little stroll with me across the deck and under the pergola we built in Mountsberg 4 years ago. It’s as good (maybe better?) now than it was when we completed it, since the client has stained all the wood.

We’re back and measuring up for the first phase of a finished basement here. This will be the third project at this house, safe to say we have earned their trust. And we love when clients trust our process and expertise; which is easy to do when the work stands up to many years of use and abuse.

Got the call that the hardware had arrived, so we swung back quickly this afternoon to put the finishing touches on this unit.

Simple looking and clean. 92” of lowers with tons of storage space and a healthy size bookcase above all tied in seamlessly to the far less than perfect walls and floor (done by others)

While in the process of this built-in unit I thought I would take a moment to address a question we get frequently whenever discussing cabinetry with prospective clients.

Our standard is what’s called “framed” cabinets with “inset” doors and drawers.

The difference is subtle, but we think quite beautiful. A frame is applied to the outside of the cabinet box, and the doors and drawers in the closed position are flush to that frame, rather than “overlaying” the frame which is the arrangement most of us are accustomed to.

The clean lines and classic look make this a timeless design choice. With the tight tolerances, there is nowhere to hide, precision and craft is on display, and for something that is meant to be functional and beautiful but not necessarily a statement, using flat slab doors and drawers makes this unit very sleek and seamless.

No awkward filler strips. No scribe moulding. Just extended stiles and gables to be scribed to the wall and a base to be scribed to the floor to keep that consistent 1 1/2” frame throughout the entire unit.

Stay tuned for finished pictures. There will be a painted top and some bookcases above and a baseboard and crown scribed in to integrate this unit into the room.
