How to Transplant Peonies: Part Two

Once the roots are soaked and the soil is loosened (which here in Saskatchewan can require multiple brushes!), you can see the natural divisions. This one plant split into six solid, healthy roots.

Fall is the perfect time of year for transplanting peonies and splitting mature roots to make more plants! In part 1, I dig up the plant, trim it down, and soak the roots.

Part of our summer maintenance mode is deadheading peonies so they pour their energy into stronger roots… while the mosquitos treat us like the farm’s all‑you‑can‑eat buffet.

Closed for the season! Thank you for the incredible support during our first U‑pick peony year - we’re just getting started! Peonies have a very short peak season, and with the recent rain and heat, our blooms have finished and the field is resting.

Lilac season at Twin Acres means bringing that scent inside. I’m showing how we cut lilacs so they actually drink — peel the stem, give it a gentle mallet tap, and let those blooms hydrate like champs. Simple tricks that make your bouquets last longer!
