What even is a “Generlink”? ⚡️
A GenerLink is a meter-mounted transfer switch that safely connects a portable generator to a home's electrical system during a power outage. It is installed outside at the electric meter, eliminating the need for rewiring or a subpanel, and allows you to power your home's existing electrical panel directly from your generator with a special cord. This setup prevents dangerous backfeeding and lets you choose which appliances to power using your main breaker panel, up to the generator's capacity.
How it works✨⬇️
Installation: A GenerLink is installed between your electric meter and your home's electrical panel.
Connection: To use it, you plug a special cord from your portable generator into the GenerLink device.
Powering up: Once your generator is running, the GenerLink automatically connects your home's electrical system to the generator's power.
Power control: Your main breaker panel works as usual, allowing you to turn on and off circuits to power specific appliances like refrigerators, lights, or furnaces, up to the generator's limit.
Safety: It prevents the dangerous situation of electricity from your generator flowing back onto the utility power lines, which protects utility workers.
Benefits of a Generlink
Convenience: Easily connects your generator without running extension cords through windows and doors.
Safety: Prevents backfeeding of electricity to the grid and is often recommended by utility companies.
Flexibility: Allows you to power any circuit in your home by using your breaker panel, instead of being limited to a few pre-wired circuits like some traditional transfer switches.
Simple installation: Typically requires no major rewiring, as it's installed externally at the meter
