If your garage door has started announcing itself to the whole street, it's usually not just age. A door that's gotten loud is telling you something specific. Rattling and shaking often means loose hardware, which vibrates itself looser over time. A grinding or scraping sound points at dry or worn rollers. A bang at the top of the opening can be worn springs or the door coming out of balance. And a slap of the chain is often an opener that's due for service. None of it fixes itself, and a noisy door is a door working harder than it should. Worth a listen next time it goes up.

Walnut woodgrain against white board-and-batten and stone has a way of warming up a garage. We installed three Clopay Bridgeport doors in Ultra-Grain Walnut Oak, one tall bay and two smaller, all matching front to back.

What went in:
• 3x Clopay Bridgeport doors, Extended panel design in Ultra-Grain Walnut Oak
• SQ24 square window sections up top
• LiftMaster side-mount operators

A loading dock is more than a door. It's the door, the leveler that bridges the truck to the floor, the seals and bumpers around the opening, and the operator that runs it, and they all have to work together. When one part is worn, the rest wears faster: a torn seal lets weather and pests in, a tired leveler makes for a rough transition, a beat-up bottom section stops sealing properly. We handle the whole dock, not just the door, because a dock that's half-maintained is a dock that costs you in heat, in wear, and in the odd close call. Treat it as one system and it runs like one.

A bay door that won't open backs up the whole morning. Trucks wait, orders sit, and the crew stands around looking at the same door. Most of the time it's something straightforward: a broken spring, a worn opener, a bent section of track, or a photo-eye knocked out of line. We keep the common commercial parts on the truck for exactly that, because on a working building a door that's down isn't an inconvenience, it's the whole day stopped. A door that's already sticking or groaning is usually telling you it's close. Better caught on a slow afternoon than a Monday morning.

Picking a garage door off a small brochure photo is mostly guesswork. The door is a big chunk of the front of your house, and the colour, the window layout, and the panel style change the whole look. There's a design tool that takes the guessing out of it. You start with a photo of your own home, then try different styles, colours, and windows right on the house until something looks right. It's the easiest way to see what actually suits your place before anything gets ordered, and it's a decent way to kill twenty minutes on a slow evening.

The one we're never without is the spring winding tool. It lets us add or release tension quickly, and more importantly, safely. Springs hold a lot of energy, and that's not a part of the door you want to guess at.
