🥹 This job is where I really learned that I have a knack for making things beautiful

One of my 1st sizeable jobs in Ontario, way back in 2018, when I was 23 years old.

I didn't have any training or guidance, just a desire to work for myself.

I borrowed my parents' tools, took on this project, and used my intuition to decide how to approach making this overgrown landscape beautiful again.

😱 Honestly, I didn't really know what I was doing... at times, I felt "in over my head".

But I did it! I realized then that no matter how daunting the task, anything can be split up into a single problem, a single solution, and a single idea at a time.

It's actually quite simple: as long as all the little details are taken care of along the way, the big picture turns out really pleasing to the eye.

Sprinkle in some solid integrity, positive attitude, and a desire to make people happy, and I had grown myself a budding little business 🤠

As I expanded my skill set, took on bigger and bigger jobs, and eventually moved to beautiful BC in 2021, I have always maintained this central piece of insight from my early days:

It's SO devastating when I forget to take the before picture 😭

I just get so excited, you know?

I get my tools all set up, I make a game-plan, and then I get moving. I tap right into flow-state where time disappears, and it's just me and my tools, solving 1 problem at a time.

2 hours go by before I realize that I never got the shot 🫠.

So here is a "during and after" picture!

Do you have a unique problem that needs a highly skilled problem solver?

Like this job where my clients said:

😱"Help! We don't want to pay thousands of dollars to have this old hot tub craned out of here... We also think there are wasps in there 🐝 "

So, I showed up with a helper and a bunch of tools! We got to dicing, and sure enough, dozens of wasps!!!

Slowly but surely, we started slicing with saws and hammers, and anytime wasp friends got disturbed, we backed far away and waited for them to settle. It took a whole day, but we got that thing thing out of there and to the dump.

Well, now there's a big hole in the deck!

It's a good thing that finishing carpentry happens to be my favorite type of work 💪🪚 🔨

Some precision cutting, a bit of framing, perfectly gapped deck-boards (clients didn't want to replicate the existing hardwood pattern - too expensive!) and Voila! It's like the wasp infested hot tub was never there 🤗

While the wasp situation was precarious, I still love helping my clients solve problems and make things beautiful!

One of the best ways to tame the chaos of nature is to separate visual areas with defined borders!
