Looks like Gilbert finally found his niche. 😉

Sneak peek during the construction phase of our shower/tub build in a bathroom we are renovating.

This is one of our signature details in the bathrooms we renovate.

Rather than building a standard small rectangle box store cavity niche, we frame a wall to wall feature niche to create a clean, architectural focal point with generous storage and a truly custom look. It gives us the flexibility to perfectly align the tile and create a design that feels intentional from the start—not like an afterthought.

It’s one of those behind-the-scenes details that most people never see, but it makes all the difference in the finished space.

ZEN STYLE DOOR

We finally installed a new back door. It was time. The old one was tired and not functioning the best so we decided to replace it with this stunning zen door.

We opted to add this gorgeous green colour on the outside and black on the inside. All our interior window trim is black so it will tie in beautifully with that aesthetic nicely.

A lovely 18” sidelight will bring in the natural light and help make the interior space feel larger.

What’s Behind Your Door Frame Might Surprise You…

We recently opened up a door frame and found something you don’t often see—but it explains a lot about comfort issues in a home.

Years ago, it was common to wrap door jambs with tar paper. The intention was protection—but in reality, it can trap heat and moisture in all the wrong ways.

Here’s what happens:
• Warm air gets trapped behind the paper
• Cold air meets it from the outside
• Condensation forms
• Moisture builds up… and in extreme cases, even ice can form inside your wall

Yes—actual ice around the door frame.

Over time, this leads to:
• Heat loss
• Damp wood
• Potential mould issues

The fix?
Proper air sealing.

Today, we use low-expansion spray foam around door frames to:
✔ Seal gaps completely
✔ Prevent air leakage
✔ Stop moisture buildup
✔ Improve overall energy efficiency

It’s one of those small details that makes a big difference in how your home feels.

DESIGN | CONSTRUCTION —Architectural Improvements

Sometimes the simplest architectural change makes the biggest difference.

In this kitchen renovation, we replaced a standard-height door with an 8' pocket door within a 9' ceiling. The result immediately draws the eye upward and gives the entire space a more refined, intentional presence.

Switching to a pocket door also eliminated the door swing into the kitchen, improving circulation and making the layout feel calmer and more usable.

We selected a frosted glass panel to softly conceal the laundry area beyond, and paired it with antiqued hardware for a timeless finishing detail that adds character without feeling ornate.

A subtle shift in proportion — but a meaningful upgrade in how the space feels.

TILE INSTALLATION

A front entry sets the tone for the entire home. Its a welcoming base for you and your guests.

This update replaces a dated surface with large-format 32 x 32 stone-look tile—clean, durable, and timeless underfoot. The variation on pattern colours, helps to make this high traffic zone 'forgiving' for dirty the always tends to collect quickly in entry ways.
