A Trail, A View, and a Surprise Visitor!
Work continues on the recreational hiking trails for the Okanagan Gondola, and there’s a lot happening behind the scenes before these trails are ready to explore.
The trail shown here is being prepared for its next stage, with surface organics and duff layers removed in preparation for the road base and crush topping. Once complete, the trail will be approximately 3 metres wide, finished with packed crush, and is scheduled for completion in December.
Building in this landscape also means keeping a close eye on the environment around us. A qualified environmental professional is on site conducting wildlife surveys and monitoring for species including small mammals, amphibians, and nesting birds.
And when you're working in the Okanagan summer heat, fire safety is always a priority. Crews are monitoring local fire danger conditions and keeping water packs and fire extinguishers close to all machine operations.
Of course, one of the best parts of working here is the view.
And every once in a while, you get a little reminder that we're sharing the landscape with some pretty interesting neighbours.
This little visitor? A young Northern rubber boa.
More trail to come, more views to enjoy, and hopefully a few more wildlife encounters along the way.
