CRL Construction Crew šŸ¤ Kangaroo Creek Farm

Last Friday our construction crew took the afternoon off to celebrate winning their 90 day minigame! They went to the Kangaroo Creek Farm in Kelowna to visit some really cool animals and critters you donā€™t see every day.

Then they headed up the road to Upside Cider to finish off the week with some cold drinks and hot pizza šŸ»

All of our crews work so hard over the year, so team events like this are always well deserved!

Every site has its own obstacles, and this one called for a creative fix: craning in large boulders and specimen trees instead of trying to force them through tight access points. Safer for the crew, and honestly the only way some of these pieces were getting in.

This isnā€™t just a tree, itā€™s a 16-foot topiary pom-pom pine going into a front yard as a specimen piece, meant to be the thing people ask about for years. Lighting, surrounding plants, and underplantings are all being designed around it, not the other way around.

Two ways to build a patio base, and only one handles freeze-thaw. Open grade uses clear stone with 40% void space, so water has room to expand and contract without pushing anything around. Dense grade uses road crush and sand, which traps water and heaves the material up every winter. We only build one of these.

Thereā€™s a full drainage system hidden behind every retaining wall we build. Drain rock lets water percolate through instead of pooling, a Big O pipe carries it out through the face of the wall, and biaxial geogrid layered through the system, including right at the base, keeps everything locked in place for years. Youā€™ll never see any of it once the wallā€™s done.

Want a yard that looks established on day one instead of in ten years? Big rocks and mature trees do that instantly, but theyā€™re heavy enough that most people assume itā€™s a huge job. We use a crane, itā€™s the safest way to move them and honestly costs less than people expect.
