Metrie

Metrie Our beginnings are in finishings. Since 1926, we’ve helped transform spaces with exquisitely crafted architectural trim. http://metrie.com/ and Canada.

Since our beginnings as a small family-owned business in 1926, we have expanded our offering, honed our craft and cultivated a passion for design and innovation. Our dedication to creating high-quality, finely crafted architectural elements has helped us grow to become the largest supplier and manufacturer of solid wood and composite moulding in North America. And that dedication still drives us t

oday. We believe every detail is as important as the next, and we go to great lengths to ensure that from the time we acquire raw materials to the time our product is installed and enjoyed, it meets the highest standards for quality and design. By milling our own products, we have the internal capability to create custom profiles and streamline production and shipping. We operate seven solid wood and MDF manufacturing facilities, plus 26 distribution centers in the U.S. This makes it easier to react to regional needs and provide better, more responsive logistical support. While we encourage your creative comments about interior design and finishings, we ask your comments respect the diverse design potential that surrounds us. The Metrie 100 Series celebrates the people who set our standard.

⭐ Meet MICHAEL.

"I have a very distinct memory of going to head office when I was a young kid and my dad let us put our hands in the photocopier and get out some photocopies of our hands. I remember that feeling like, that is a pretty incredible machine!

In grade 9, there's a Take Your Kid To Work Day. I went with my cousin and my father to Ferndale, and so we got to tour the Ferndale Mill, that was a distinct memory that stands out for me. I had no idea that many years later I would be back in the business looking from a slightly different vantage point.

After that trip to Ferndale, my mind was quite a bit more open to the various things that we did in the business. The manager of the mill at that time spoke Japanese, he had a Japanese wife. That year I'd started taking Japanese classes in high school. Many years later, after learning Japanese and going to university there, me and my wife met there, I came back into the Langley business and we had a fairly sizable multi-million dollar program where we sold direct to a few customers in Japan.

I started joining the tours of these groups that this big Japanese construction company was sending. So it came around full circle - the first time I ever went to Ferndale in grade 9 when I just started Japanese. And then many years later, coming back and helping people co-facilitate tours in Japanese to this big group of Japanese salespeople."

The Metrie 100 spotlights the people behind our impact.

⭐ Meet DUNSIN.

“I worked for a company called Western Millwork. I've been with Metrie for two years. It's been a whirlwind thus far. I have moved roles within a year. I've moved countries and honestly, it's been great. My team down here is fantastic. Obviously coming in I was a bit nervous. I'm a new person with a team I've never worked with before and I can say almost a year in, it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. I am so fortunate to work alongside all the great people and look forward to many more years of Metrie overall.

My role previously was more or less doing, I'll call it corporate strategies - just so many different things, different projects. I was sitting at tables and in conversations with other people who have done so many different roles in Metrie and really understand the customers, understand the product, understand the everyday workflows. I saw how important that understanding was in making larger business decisions.

That's where that desire came from for me and a sense of: what other role can I do to really get to know the business at the core of it all? And that's my role now, I get to see what the operations looks like. I get to see how money is being made for Metrie, being at the forefront with customers and the different day-to-day escalations. It has been truly life changing. The amount of experience I've gotten within the last year is second to none. It's nice being at that ground level and seeing how things work and as someone who definitely wants to keep advancing and keep growing my career, I have got so much from this experience."

💛🏠 Last week, our team joined forces with Habitat for Humanity Chicago and an incredible group of partners to help build homes for families in need and the impact was felt from the very first swing of the hammer.

We were thrilled to spend the day giving back to the Chicago community alongside our valued partners, including John Atkinson from ARAUCO, B.J. Hebenthal from 84 Lumber Company, Greg Gold from US LBM, and team members from Schaaf Window Co., Inc. Being joined by Matthew Sauder and Lucy Greer, Metrie’s leadership team, and our colleagues from our Chicago branch made it a truly meaningful experience, with everyone working side by side to get the job done.

This build marked a special moment in our centennial year. It was a hands on reminder of our purpose in action, helping create places people can truly call home, while giving back to the communities where we live and work.

Huge thanks to everyone who showed up, pitched in, and helped make the day such a positive and memorable experience 👏

Real stories from the Metrie 100 that show why Metrie feels like home.

⭐ Meet CINDY.

"I worked for a company called Western Millwork. I started there in September of ‘94 and I was very new to the industry and didn't think it would last long. And 31 years later, it lasted!

Metrie bought Western in 2005. I was curious. I was scared. I was intrigued. You know, all the things…and Sean McCabe was my general manager and he and Mike Lee took me under their wing and moulded me into what I am today.

From Sean to Ron to Kevin, then Spencer, then Mike. I mean seriously, you can't get a better family-owned company and we are family. We are family at our branch. Matt’s been an amazing boss, Bruce is my work husband, and now Robyn as my sales manager…

Sean McCabe said, hey, I want you to go do this sales training in Toronto. I think it was 2007. That's when I first met Robyn. When she came out the other day to see me I actually had my original training package, it's still in my files, and I said, look what I found! That was fun to go through all that with Robyn.

We've had a blast this week, getting to know my customer base and they were very warm and welcoming.

I have very good friends that are customers and we do a lot of things outside of work, people who have changed positions, they've moved, and we've stayed friends all these years. I love my customers. I represent Metrie. And in representing Metrie, I have to make sure that they understand that they will always be taken care of, no matter what's happening. So being the face of Metrie is a big responsibility."

One team. Many stories. Stay tuned for the next one!

The Metrie 100 spotlights the people behind our impact.

⭐ Meet MYRA.

“12 years with the company, I started as an admin and just worked my way up to operations manager. I was just coming here to do my job and try to get product to the customers, I think that was the main thing for me.

Back in the day we were working crazy hours to get it done, now my guys are working straight 8 hours a day. So that's a big win for me.

I love improving systems, solving problems and supporting my team. I care about the work, but I also care about the people behind it.

My biggest thing is to be out there with them on the floor; it was my biggest thing and the hardest part of the role because I have to be behind the computer a lot too!

I think that's how I gained their respect, by them seeing me out there helping out with the heavy days, they got motivated, they never see me stress or nothing. It’s like, let's get it done right and let's go home!”
