The final flower weekend of 2026!!

Two truths: I don’t want to say goodbye AND I am so tired.

Together we navigated crazy depths of snow, tons of rain, trees falling, endless construction chaos, Japanese beetles, the driest September and more.

And yet I survived and you all showed up to support my stand in a huge way! Waiting for it to open, chasing me down when it wasn’t open to get your flower fix, pre orders, selling it out, weddings, buckets, gifting (so much joy was spread!!), self pleasure… together we experienced the full spectrum of human emotions through this medium of flowers.

I won’t try to get anymore deep 🤣 but my gratitude overflows this thanksgiving weekend, and every weekend, for all of you allowing me to have this one crazy life on my own terms (aka not employed at a desk away from my babies).

If you have traversed the construction over the last 2 years to reach me. I am eternally grateful. My stand certainly was not the convenient option for flowers when costco and every grocery store had bunches.

But you guys rocked my world, supporting me.

Our road is open! (construction is still a thing but it’s minor finishing details now). We have a driveway! And the region even made our entrance extra wide so that we can turn in easier AND I have a lovely spot to put the stand!

Our road is still 2 lanes but we now have a bike lane on each side and wider shoulders which makes pulling over for my stand that much easier too.

Thank you thank you thank you for surviving al of this with me.

Whatever will I talk about moving forward?!

Well we survived that frost, and made it to our seasonal closing weekend 🥳

I will now be taking pre orders for the weekend should you wish to secure a bouquet for pick up on the day of your choosing (Fri, Sat, Sun).

$20/bouquet. You DM me to coordinate availability and pick up date, e-transfer funds and it will be ready for you to pick up on my porch at the date and time of your choosing.

This will be the final weekend for fresh cut flowers from me until Mother’s Day weekend when we reopen for 2027!

So close and yet so far.

Even though I started them earlier than last year, that long, dry September stalled the stock and they will likely bloom… a week or so after thanksgiving 🙃

Try again, in a year. Honestly that’s the hardest part for me. Every mistake is an opportunity to try again, but you only get one shot each year😣 And there are so many variables outside of your control when growing things. Why did a control freak choose this path? I’m still trying to understand 😝

Snapdragons reflushing late; That’s all on me. I knew I should have chopped them hard 2-3 weeks earlier but August was busy and well, things don’t always stay on schedule even if they are on the calendar. 🤷🏼‍♀️

🥶Dun Dun Dun

My gardens are far too big to try and protect everything but the dahlias are set to be the stars of the thanksgiving weekend bouquets and they don’t have a long enough vase life to harvest early.

They are getting preferential treatment tonight as we head into our first serious frost risk warning.

A few things help protect against frost:
-wind
-cloud cover
-tree canopies
-building canopies
-microclimates like a brick wall that will radiate heat back out after the sun has set
-watering
-sheets or frost cloth

Luckily the trees still have full canopies, and if the wind keeps up like it was today, frost won’t have chance to settle in, but just in case I have everything a solid watering in and tucked some frost cloth over.

Everything else … survival of the fittest at this point! It’s in Mother Nature’s hands.

To build quick and easy hoops I use 3’ rebar and 3/4” pex tubing. I store my bags on my tposts during the growing season and this prevents human injury but also softens the edges of the tposts so it doesn’t rip the frost cloth. Clamps (& binder clips) hold the cloth in place.

Second last weekend of the season!

I would highly recommend avoiding my road on Saturday. They are finishing up the last little details today(Friday) before the asphalt crews arrive on Saturday to put on the second layer from townline to Enfield. We will not be accessible while they are working.

Friday however all the barricades have been removed, a base layer of asphalt goes from end to end and we are easily accessible!

Due to all of this the stand is out as of 12noon on Friday.

This weekend I have 3 colour palettes at both Gardenerette and the flower stand. A peachy number, an autumnal burgundy and yellow, and a crisp white and green.

Part of me is ready to light fire to my entire garden and be done with it for the year, cause this girl is TIRED! But that 2 truths thing, I’m also not ready to say good bye to this beautiful part of my life.
